English flyer Dom Young may have played his last game for the Roosters with the winger granted permission to talk with rival clubs immediately.

Young has been told that he is free to leave the club if he wants before June 30 - just 18 months into a four year contract.

His former club Newcastle have emerged as a potential landing spot given the Knights were never keen to let Young go.

The Roosters’ big-money deal was enough for him to make the switch last season and he went on to score 20 tries in 22 games for the Roosters in 2024.

He has struggled to replicate that form this year, prompting coach Trent Robinson to send him back to NSW Cup last week.

In his absence, the Roosters continued their recent revival as they put the Dolphins to the sword at Magic Round, in the process reviving their hopes of finishing the season in the top eight.

Young’s place on the wing was taken by rugby union convert Mark Nawaqanitawase, who has played so well he has been mentioned as a bolter for the NSW side.

Young, meanwhile, is facing an uncertain future at the Roosters with a return to the Knights looking more and more likely.

This masthead understands that the Knights are open to accommodating Young, although any return is likely to hinge on working out a deal that suits both clubs.

The Knights never wanted Young to leave and he would add strike to a backline that struggled to score points this season before they put a big score on an undermanned South Sydney last weekend.

Young scored 43 tries in 51 games at Newcastle, having moved to Australia as a relative unknown after making only two appearances in Super League for Huddersfield.
