Dally M 2020: Winger of the year award a hot field

Maika Sivo was the NRL’s top tryscorer and dominated most statistical categories, but it still wasn’t enough to cap a stunning debut season with Dally M winger of the year honours. WHO WILL IT BE IN 2020? VOTE IN OUR POLL!

Parramatta could easily have had two legitmate calls for Dally M winger of the year in 2019, yet they ened up empty handed.

New Zealand Warriors flyer Ken Maumalo scored 17 tries to eclipse both Blake Ferguson and first-season wonder Maika Sivo to the award, with representative wingers Corey Oates and Josh Addo-Carr also unlucky in arguably the most competitive position on the field.

Can Sivo overcome second-year syndrome to continue his dramatic rise? Will Ferguson continue his blue-and-gold resurrection? Or will Oates return to his barnstorming best for Brisbane?

Check out the top contenders to be named the NRL’s best winger and vote in our poll!

Blake Ferguson

The Parramatta and Blues speedster has had a rollercoaster career but over the past few seasons he has shown plenty of consistency on and off the field. He had an especially impressive 2019, with his red hot form earning him an Origin recall for NSW last year.

2019 stats: 19 games, 10 tries, 157 run metres per game, 58 tackle busts, 9 linebreaks, 4 try assists.

Corey Oates

The try-scoring machine is one of the best finishers in the game. A former forward, the barnstorming Oates holds the record as the greatest tryscorer at Suncorp Stadium, has represented his state multiple times and is one of the few Broncos backs you can lock in for a starting spot in 2020.

2019 stats: 22 games, 13 tries, 145 run metres per game, 67 tackle busts, 13 linebreaks, 0 try assists.

Josh Addo-Carr

Premiership-winner Addo-Carr is one of the most exciting and flashy wingers in the game. The Melbourne flyer has played for NSW and Australia and holds the title of the fastest player in the NRL.

Maika Sivo

He is only one season into his NRL career, but Sivo is already a cult hero for Parramatta. The Fijian sensation scored 22 tries in his rookie year and will no doubt have more speed to burn in 2020.

2019 stats: 25 games, 22 tries, 146 run metres per game, 89 tackle busts, 23 linebreaks, 2 try assists.

Daniel Tupou

The long-time Roosters winger is a quiet achiever, but has been a loyal servant to Sydney over the years. He had one of his strongest seasons in 2019, is one of the more consistent backs in the game, has won three premierships with the Roosters and represented NSW, Australia and Tonga.

2019 stats: 26 games, 15 tries, 171 run metres per game, 67 tackle busts, 12 linebreaks, 6 try assists.
