Brisbane’s bold image makeover has had an extraordinary impact with the Broncos’ new away strip recording one of the biggest sales results in the club’s history.

Code Sports can reveal Brisbane’s new secondary kit - launched as a tribute to legendary Broncos scout Cyril Connell - has produced a stunning 180 per cent increase in sales compared to the previous away jersey.

On the club’s website, the men’s jersey was sold out across all sizes, except for small.

The midnight-blue strip, a nod to the navy-and-white colours of Connell’s junior club Rockhampton Brothers, will replace Brisbane’s white away jersey in 2026.

Broncos fans flooded the club’s merchandise headquarters at Red Hill in the past 48 hours following the release of Brisbane’s new logo, updated for the first time in 25 years.

It is understood demand for the Cyril Connell guernsey is three times higher than the previous white away strip, while Brisbane’s 2026 home kit - featuring the slick new emblem - sold hundreds of jerseys on day one of the Broncos’ historic rebrand.

The Broncos are heading towards a record 70,000 members next year, with corporate boxes for all home games at Suncorp Stadium in 2026 already sold out.

Brisbane chief executive Dave Donaghy has been blown away by the interest from fans as the Broncos revel in the most significant image overhaul in a quarter of a century following this year’s premiership win.

“It’s been great to see our new look striking a chord,” he said.

“Already we’ve seen great momentum off the back of the launch especially with our new merchandise range.

“Our new away jersey has had a really strong start.

“It’s particularly special because it’s a tribute to Cyril Connell, a true Broncos legend, and that connection clearly resonates with our members and fans.”

One of Australia’s top PR experts, Max Markson, believes the Broncos’ revamped look can take the club to the world.

“It’s a more professional look, they have tidied the imagery up,” he said.

“They have taken out the Broncos word, which is interesting, but Wrexham is now a global brand now in football because they have Disney involved and the Broncos can go the same way.

“It would be great to see Netflix or someone picking up the Brisbane Broncos and using them over the next five years leading into the 2032 Olympic Games.

“The Broncos have been smart elevating Brisbane because the Olympics are coming to the city.

“I love their thinking. They have kept the Bronco and Brisbane is now the headline. They can be a worldwide brand. The Olympics will be enormous for Brisbane.”
