Australia v Scotland: Who starred and who stank in opening Four Nations match?

AUSTRALIA kicked off their Four Nations campaign with a routine 54-12 win over Scotland — who starred and who stunk?

AUSTRALIA kicked off their Four Nations campaign with a routine 54-12 win over Scotland at Hull’s KC Lightstream Stadium.

The Kangaroos ran in 10 tries against the Bravehearts with Cooper Cronk and James Maloney grabbing two apiece.

Here’s how the Daily Telegraph’s Nick Campton rated every player:

Matt Moylan8
Looked very comfortable. Combined well with the other playmakers in a stellar debut.
FULLBACK
Lachlan Coote6
Tried hard to spark something. Should play in the halves next time.
Josh Mansour8
Gave Mal Meninga a nice headache with two tries and several strong carries.
WING
Lewis Tierney5
Struggled in defense but carried the ball well.
Justin O’Neill5
A little quiet. Did not seize his chance to force his way into the top side.
CENTRE
Euan Aitken6
Always beats the first man. Worked hard.
Josh Dugan6
Scored a fine try but may be the odd man out next week after a nasty head clash saw him finish early.
CENTRE
Kane Linnett5
Scotland probably would have expected more from someone of his experience.
Blake Ferguson6
Scored the first try but otherwise was well contained.
WING
Matty Russell6
Looked strong when he got involved around the middle. A move to fullback could be a shrewd one.
James Maloney7
All over the place in attack and never stopped threatening.
5/8
Danny Brough7
Scotland’s best. He always looked the most likely.
Cooper Cronk7
More machine than man. Did everything well yet again.
H/BACK
Ryan Brierly4
Looked out of his depth from the start but did well to grab the Scots first try.
Aaron Woods7
His footwork and offloads made him a nightmare for the defense.
PROP
Adam Walker5
Carried the ball well but was caught out in defense.
Cameron Smith6
Did the business, as always. One of Australia’s best when he was out there and was given an early mark at halftime.
HOOKER
Liam Hood6
A real scrapper. Put a good shot on Moylan in a promising Test debut.
David Klemmer6
Had a running battle with Walker but didn’t show his best.
PROP
Luke Douglas6
Led the way up front but lacked support.
Sam Thaiday5
Not one of his better performances.
2ND ROW
Danny Addy6
The skillful Bradford man should have seen more ball.
Tyson Frizell7
Should be very happy with his first start for Australia. Carried the ball well.
2ND ROW
Dale Ferguson6
Toiled hard against superior opposition.
Jake Trbojevic7
Another player who was strong on debut. Took the ball to the line well.
LOCK
Ben Kavanagh6
Came back well from a head knock to run a great line for the Bravehearts second try.
Jake Friend4
Played the whole second half but didn’t stand out.
I/CHANGE
Ben Hellewell5
Tried his best but was out of his depth a little.
Shannon Boyd5
Didn’t quite have the impact one would expect.
I/CHANGE
Sheldon Powe-Hobbs3
Sloppy hands cost him on several occasions.
Trent Merrin6
His footwork looked sharp in the middle.
I/CHANGE
Sam Brooks4
Struggled with the pace of the game.
Michael Morgan6
Deputized well at centre and scored his first Test try.
I/CHANGE
Billy McConnachie3
Not a lot went right for Billy Madness.
