Adam Reynolds to be named for Broncos’ Magic Round clash against Panthers amid shoulder concerns

Adam Reynolds has been bringing the magic all season for the Broncos and fittingly will be named in their Magic Round side, setting up a clash between rugby league’s Kings of Conjure.

Reynolds masterclass leads Bronx blitz

The clash between rugby league’s Kings of Conjure - Nathan Cleary and Adam Reynolds - is back on.

The Broncos have received a massive boost for their Magic Round clash with Penrith with Adam Reynolds looking likely to face grand final nemesis Cleary at Suncorp Stadium.

Reynolds trained in a red bib which dictated no physical contact on Monday morning but the shoulder pain which saw him replaced in the landslide win over the Bulldogs is diminishing.

Reynolds has not been sent for scans and he will be named in the side on Tuesday to face the Panthers at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday unless there are complications at Tuesday’s training session.

Reynolds injury scare sours Broncos victory

Reynolds had one of the best games of his career when he tormented the Bulldogs in driving rain with a kicking game that belied the challenges of a sodden Suncorp last week.

The Panthers may have won the last four premierships but they are last on the competition ladder after a horror start to the season.

Reynolds’ availability is good news for new Broncos fullback Selwyn Cobbo who flourished behind Reynolds’ create hand against the Bulldogs after Reece Walsh was absent injured.

Cobbo has won all three games he has played at fullback for the Broncos and, against the Bulldogs, played with a directness and composure that Walsh has, at times, lacked this season.

With the first State of Origin match at Suncorp Stadium a month away Maroons coach Billy Slater has several vexing issues to solve.

Veteran halfback and captain Daly Cherry-Evans has been hot and cold this season but is expected to retain his spot and the most intriguing shootout will be for his halves partner – Tom Dearden or Cameron Munster.

Dearden is seen as a future captain and a Maroons anchorman for many years to come with rare toughness and composure.

But Munster as a renowned match-winner and may be slightly ahead in the pecking order, with Dearden a strong chance of slotting in on the bench.

Kalyn Ponga, despite Newcastle’s ordinary form and his own mixed efforts, remains a slight favourite to win the coveted fullback spot ahead of Walsh and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow who has been warming up nicely with the Dolphins.

Selector Darren Lockyer threw up South Sydney’s Jye Gray as a bolter.
