WEST COAST FEVER

8 GS JHANIELE FOWLER

No matter how physical the Vixens defenders got, Fowler just brushed it off and calmly scored goal after goal. She put away 58 of her 59 shots. Her ability to snatch four rebounds from the hands of the Vixens defence helped Fever net some crucial extra points early. Fowler scored the highest Nissan Net Points of the game with 105.

9 GA SASHA GLASGOW

There was no doubt Glasgow would be named the Most Valuable Player of the grand final. She was just where she needed to be every single time for the full 60 minutes. Glasgow netted each of her four shots on goal and four of her nine super shots but it was her 26 goal assists and ability to create opportunities for Fowler that earned her the accolade and 85.5 Nissan Net Points.

7 WA ALICE TEAGUE-NEELD

With 34 feeds into the circle and 35 centre receives, Alice Teague-Neld was near perfect for Fever but six turnovers in the midcourt cost her Nissan Net Points tally. She was a solid performer for the full 60 minutes.

8 C VERITY SIMMONS

Verity Simmons gets an A++ for effort — she was involved every second of each quarter and brought a very physical game — throwing the Vixens’ midcourters off their match. The extra penalties and some easy turnovers impacted her Nissan Net Point total which finished at 41.5.

6 WD JESS ANSTISS

It was clear Jess Antiss was given a specific role for this game — keep Vixens away from the ball. She executed it well pulling off two crucial deflections but the niggling with the midcourters meant she copped a number of penalties.

4 GD SUNDAY ARYANG

Sunday Aryang seemed content to let Courtney Bruce do most of the work in the circle. Aryang played a fine back-up role and was always there if needed but didn’t do much to impact the game or stop Kumwenda in the circle.

8 GK COURTNEY BRUCE

Seven crucial deflections, with six of them in the first quarter, helped get the ball back in Fever’s hands and build an early lead. Bruce’s determination to win the ball was the best on court.

2 GD STACEY FRANCIS-BAYMAN

Took to the court for the final six minutes of the final quarter, replacing Aryang. With the Vixens having little ball she didn’t have much to do.

MELBOURNE VIXENS

6 GS MWAI KUMWENDA

Her accuracy under the post was never questioned but her lack of desperation to contest the ball early on let Fever into the game. Kumwenda netted 28 of her 29 goals and missed another two super shots. She was subbed off for the final five minutes in several quarters to make way for super shot queen Rhani Samason

8 GA KIERA AUSTIN

What a super woman. To put on a performance like Kiera Austin did days after recovering from Covid-19 had everyone in awe. Austin’s efforts on court proved how much she wanted to take the trophy home. She netted 17 of her 19 shots and another four super shots. Austin didn’t just stop at attacking, she pulled off an intercept and five deflections.

7 WA LIZ WATSON

A quieter game than usual but Watson certainly worked hard with 22 goal assists and 38 feeds, as well as an intercept and a deflection.

6 C KATE MOLONEY

Was a workhorse trying to keep Vixens in touch with the Fever, pulling off nine goal assists and 19 feeds, a high penalty count hurt her Nissan Net Points but Moloney earns an extra gold star for her never say die attitude.

5 WD KATE EDDY

Tried to be a pest to the Vixens midcourters leading to a high penalty count. Eddy played the role well but it didn’t keep Fever from moving the ball with ease through the midcourt.

6 GD JO WESTON

The high penalty count damaged her Nissan Net Points but the penalties showed Weston was desperate to put Fowler and Glasgow under pressure — contesting every ball — just unfortunate it didn’t yield many positive results with just two intercepts.

4 GK EMILY MANNIX

Subbed off briefly in the third quarter but struggled to keep up with Fowler in the circle. Penalised 11 times but did secure two intercepts.

2 GK OLIVIA LEWIS

Subbed on for the third quarter in a bid to reduce the growing penalty count but didn’t have much impact — handed over another four penalties.

4 GS RAHNI SAMASON

Super sub Rahni Samason wasn’t quite able to pull off what she did in the Vixens’ preliminary final comeback against the Giants. Pulled on for the final five minutes of three quarters, Samason netted two of her four super shot attempts and two other goals.
