THE man with the most exquisite footy food in Melbourne has broken his silence after a photo of him feasting on cheese and smashed avocado at the MCG went viral at the weekend.
Ned Trumble, who is a passionate Melbourne fan, told the Will and MJ show on Triple M that he is usually happy with a meat pie at the footy.
However, he was convinced by a friend to “take it to another level” on Sunday.
“It was a bit of a smorgasbord,” Trumble said.
“There were some semi-sun-dried tomatoes, some green olives … avocado, some nice baguettes.
“We did actually have smoked trout in the bag but we didn’t pull it out. We thought it might be a bit smelly for the other spectators.”
Trumble didn’t expect his fine dining to draw as much attention as it did.
He even shared some of his food with the other spectators around him.
Asked if he was the classic stereotype of a Demons fan, Tumble joked:
“If a Melbourne Demons supporter is the stereotype of someone who enjoys the good things in life and has a refined palate, then yes. I’ll take that. I hope Melbourne supporters will identify with that.
“I hope (I have inspired more people to do it).
“Let’s hope it is opening up a debate about what we eat at the footy.”
As for some advice for other footy fans thinking of doing the same thing this week, Trumble had this to say:
“I’d stay away from some of the odorous cheeses. Some of the big flavours might not go down so well with your neighbours.”
