LEGENDARY skateboarder Tony Hawk will take entertainment to new heights at this year's Australian Grand Prix with a giant vertical ramp to be built at Albert Park to showcase death-defying stunts.
Considered the best skateboarder of all time, Hawk will bring a troupe of riders from around the world as well as Australia's best to Melbourne to take part in trick sessions high above the F1 track.
The "Tony Hawk and Friends Vert Sessions" will be free to all GP ticketholders with performances to be staged across all four days of the event.
A purpose-built half-pipe at least 18m long, 14m high and 12m wide will be installed in an
"action zone" in Albert Park to showcase the stunts.
Hawk, who turned professional at 14 and is widely viewed as a pioneer of skateboarding, said he was excited to be coming to Melbourne.
"I have a huge passion for action sports and Formula One is no exception," he said.
"I can't wait to get to Melbourne and experience it up close."
The Hawk and Friends Sessions will form the major non-racing action this year. The Australian Grand Prix roars into town March 13-16.
