Formula One launching a race in Las Vegas is set to keep Daniel Ricciardo racing another year.

Reacting to the news that Sin City would play host to a third US-based race in the 2023 F1 calendar, the Australian joked he would reconsider his retirement plans as a result.

“I was gonna retire,” he said tongue in cheek. “I will not no more.”

Ricciardo and other drivers shared hilarious reactions to news that the famous Vegas strip would feature in an incredible new race circuit set to be launched for a Saturday night race next year.

The race returns to the city for the first time since 1982 and joins Miami and Austin as US host cities on the calendar.

The race will take place at night, on a Saturday in November. The track will be 3.8 miles (6.12km) long from start to finish with top speeds estimated to be over 212 mph (342 km/h).

It will take in the city’s most famous landmarks, hotels and casinos. There will be 50 laps with three main straights and 14 corners, including a high-speed cornering sequence and a single chicane section.“This is gonna be a pretty hardcore event,” said Lewis Hamilton.

“Knowing it’s a party city it’s difficult for a racing driver. How are we going to be able to focus for a weekend?”

Verstappen shared his sentiments but added: “A few drivers might not even rock up for the race itself.

“Let’s not do back-to-back for this one, let’s have two week break before and two weeks after. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

For Valtteri Bottas it seems a return to an old stomping ground.

“When I last went to Vegas I said ‘never again’. But I’m coming back.

“Might need to behave better than I did last time.”

VIVA LAS VEGAS.

Formula One has announced it will be racing on the famous Las Vegas strip from 2023.

In another significant push into the United States market, F1 confirmed the Las Vegas Grand Prix would be held on a Saturday night in November next year.

The biggest motorsport show on earth will take place along the legendary Las Vegas strip against the backdrop of the city’s bright lights, sweeping past some of the world’s most well known hotels and casinos.

The addition of the Las Vegas Grand Prix will be Formula One’s third race in the US, joining races in Texas and Miami, which is on the calendar for the first time in May this year.

Off the back of the hype Netflix’s Drive to Survive series has helped generate, the third US race highlights F1’s growing footprint in the States as the sport seeks to expand its global fan base.
