Oscar Piastri has dominated the 2025 F1 Chinese Grand Prix to notch the third race victory of his young career.

The 23-year-old started on pole for the first time and while he was challenged after the lights went out by Mercedes’ George Russell, he clung to his lead and then drove a race labelled “absolutely flawless” by commentator and F1 veteran Martin Brundle.

Having occupied second place behind teammate Lando Norris for the majority of the weather-affected Australian Grand Prix last week, Piastri’s hopes of a breakthrough podium at his home race were dashed when he slipped off the track on lap 44.

He recovered to grab ninth and his first points of the season, but it was a disappointing start to his third F1 season.

That is all a distant memory now as the unstoppable Victorian finished clear of Norris and Russell at the Shanghai International Circuit

Reigning world champion Max Verstappen crossed the line fourth for Red Bull, ahead of Charles Leclerc and Sprint Race winner Lewis Hamilton.

It was also a better day for Aussie rookie Jack Doohan, who finished the race in 15th after a disastrous weekend in Melbourne, one place ahead of under-pressure Kiwi Liam Lawson.

Aston Martin veteran Fernando Alonso was the only retirement of the race after his brakes failed on lap four.

Check out how the action all unfolded on a historic day for Aussie racing below.
