Australian Grand Prix 2023: F1 merchandise prices reach all-time high

Formula One fans hoping to take home some merchandise this weekend will need deep pockets with some truly outrageous prices at the Australian Grand Prix.

Formula One fans heading to Albert Park will need to have deep pockets if they are hoping to take home some merchandise with inflated prices hitting an all-time high at the Australian Grand Prix.

With the crowd expected to be majority papaya orange in support of home favourite Oscar Piastri, anyone wanting a McLaren rain coat will be forking out a whopping $350.

A team puffer vest will cost $300, zip up sweater $250 and if fans are after something a little “cheaper” a Piastri baseball cap is $90 and a McLaren key ring $40.

It’s a similar story with the other teams. Ferrari’s official store selling a team hoodie for $180, if you want one for the kids it’s $140. A backpack is $150, a model car $220 and the water proof jacket $350.

Over at Red Bull, those needed to shelter from the forecast rain can snap up a team brolly for $100 (bargain), a mini car for $40, beanie for $70 but the clothing remains as stomach churningly expensive.

A polo shirt is $170, the 2022 world champion merchandise starts at $120 ad caps are also $90 apiece.

Lewis Hamilton merchandise is on sale, the seven time world champion’s official hoodie is $180 and the polo $130.

Mercedes driver caps are priced differently, George Russell coming in at $90 while Hamilton is $10 more. There’s a Mercedes keyring for $40, mug for $30 and water bottle for $50.

The extreme pricing is unlikely to put fans off with triple digit growth in F1 sales in a single year reporterd in 2022.

According to Sports Business Journal, merchandise was purchased in 128 countries with the US the leading marketleading the sales. The UK was second with Australia third.

Fans wanting to grab a bite of a brew at the track expect lines and a hefty charge.
