Lando Norris has issued an apology after he was left seeing red during the Portuguese Grand Prix over the weekend.

The 20-year-old British star launched a scathing attack on fellow driver Lance Stroll after a collision between the pair ruined Norris’ shot at claiming more points for his McLaren team.

A daring move from Stroll to overtake Norris ended in disaster when the Racing Point driver threw his car into the corner, not leaving enough room for Norris who was still on the inside.

The collision caused Stroll to spin off the track and left Norris with damage to his front wing forcing him into the pits.

He immediately voiced his displeasure with Stroll over the team radio and it’s fair to say he didn’t hold back.

“What the f*** is this d***head doing? I‘ve got damage boys I need to box. I got wing damage,” he said.

Stroll was handed a five-second penalty for the incident, he also copped a second five-second penalty for exceeding track limits.

Norris’ furious bake continued after the race when he slammed Stroll for not learning from his mistakes after causing an eerily similar crash during Friday’s practice session.

“I don‘t know what he was doing really,” Norris said.

“I don‘t know where he was really. He went to the left, which I was quite surprised by when he easily could have gone to the inside. I was easily halfway alongside, and he just turns in.

“He obviously didn‘t learn from Friday, but he doesn’t seem to learn with anything he does. It happens a lot, so I just need to make sure I stay away.”

The race finished with Lewis Hamilton claiming the chequered flag and moving past Michael Schumacher’s race win record.

It was the 92nd win of Hamilton’s stellar Formula 1 career, but for Norris it wasn’t that big of a deal.

“I’m just happy for him, nothing more,” Norris said according to RaceFans.

“It doesn’t mean anything to me really. He’s in a car which should win every race, basically.

“He has to beat one or two other drivers, that’s it. Fair play to him, he’s still doing the job he has to do.”

But days after the race had been finished, Norris backtracked on his comments and offered up an apology to those he had offended.

“I owe an apology. I’ve been stupid and careless with some things I’ve said lately in media and interviews, and haven’t shown the respect I should have to certain people. I’m not that kind of person, so know I should apologise to them but also everyone reading/listening. Sorry,” Norris said.

Norris currently sits in seventh spot on the drivers’ standings with 65 points. His McLaren teammate Carlos Sainz is in 10th with 59 points.

The McLaren team sit in a tight tussle for third spot on the Constructor Standings, sitting just two points behind Racing Point and four ahead of Renault.

The young Brit will join forces with Aussie Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren next year.
