THEY say you should never do live television with babies or animals and there is another rule for promo photos — don’t do guns.

The Brisbane Lions went army to launch their Anzac Day jumper with Daniel Rich and Daniel McStay not looking all that comfortable with the merchandise.

DEPP, DOOHAN SET FOR DOCO

MOTORBIKE legend Mick Doohan is to become the subject of a documentary being developed by actor Johnny Depp.

The pair are mates, with Depp staying at Doohan’s house in Coomera, Queensland last year, during filming of the fifth movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Depp said then he thought the story should be told and Doohan, who is in Berlin for the Laureus World Sports Awards of which he is a judge, confirmed yesterday that it was now happening.

The pitch is pure Hollywood: Doohan was 65 points clear and closing in on a first 500cc world championship in 1992 when a crash damaged his right leg so badly that amputation was considered.

Instead he recovered, and returned with a specially-modified bike, including a thumb-operated rear brake, to win five consecutive world titles from 1994, before another horrific crash led to his retirement.

“It’s something that is happening, but it will take some time,” Doohan said.

“It’s great that someone is making a film about the sport, first and foremost it’s going to be good for MotoGP. After that, to have someone like Johnny involved and for it to be about my life, will be pretty special.”

It is not known whether Depp intends to play the starring role.

THE latest Twittergate scandal involving field umpire Andrew Stephens has been clarified.

Stephens was the controlling umpire for three controversial decisions at the end of the Hawthorn-St Kilda game in Launceston on Saturday.

In the aftermath of the game, angry Saints fans found Stephens on Twitter where their anger went into overdrive as in the background of his header page was a photo of the MCG with a Hawks banner on the ground.

The AFL moved quickly to ensure that Stephens wasn’t a Hawthorn fan and there had been no bias with former umpire Derek Humphery-Smith explaining the origin of the photo on SEN.

“He came down for his first Grand Final in 2014 and took the panoramic shot and just happened to be when the Hawthorn banner was up,” Humphery-Smith said.

“So, poor Andrew Stephens he’s learnt a bit of a lesson and learnt a bit about twitter because I understand he got a bit of advice to take the app off his phone.

“But that doesn’t do anything, so maybe he needs some better IT advice as well — but he’s not a Hawthorn supporter.”
