The GPS First XI competition was off to a flying start last weekend, with highlight package moments at every venue.
Here we name the first Team of the Week of the season, with seven if the eight teams represented.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
1. Cameron Sinfield (TSS)
The Southport School suffocated Churchie with the ball and in the field, and the ringmaster in both areas was all-rounder Cameron Sinfield. In a team bowling performance, his 10-4-21-3 was decisive as he claimed three top order players. He also scored a handy 17.
2. Fraser Judd (TGS)
Judd almost sparked an unlikely TGS win against BBC with two late wickets that narrowed BBC’s winning margin to three wickets. When he batted, Judd also scored 23.
3. Jaxson Davies (TSS)
Davies put on his patience pants to play second fiddle to a runaway Dushyant Thaman. Normally the master of ceremonies when he is batting, Davies patiently made 66 from 102 balls, sharing in a big partnership with Thaman which set up the win.

4. Dilshan Wickrama (BSHS)
The match could have gone Nudgee’s way had Dilshan Wickrama been dismissed early, but instead he put aside the disruption of BSHS losing four early wickets to inch to 42 not out from 82 balls - ensuring BSHS could claim a glorious win over Nudgee.
5. Dushyant Thaman (TSS)
Thaman’s batting continued to blossom, with the Queensland U17 spin ace thumping a run-a-ball 86 in his team’s big win over Churchie. Thaman was so dominant, the normally aggressive Jaxson Davies had to play second fiddle. Then in the field, Thaman claimed 2-9 with his left arm slow bowling.
6. Lenny Henry (Terrace)
Henry’s match high score of 38 was responsible for Terrace scrambling the unlikely winning score of 84. No other player in his side reached double figures as he took Terrace from 3-9 to 9-82. The all-rounder also bowled four tight overs, but that innings of 38 was worth 80 or 90.

7. D’Arcy Satharasinghe (BBC)
With both ball, and then bat, D’Arcy Satharasinghe altered the complexion of the match. He took 4-21, with his dismissal of established batsmen Joshua Cranston (30, 71 balls) and Oliver Lockwood (22, 63 balls) a turning point. Then, chasing, Satharasinghe scored 31 from 31 balls on a day when the ball dominated the bat.
8. Ryan Atley (BBC)
Would BBC have won without Atley’s 35? It is highly unlikely. All of D’Arcy Satharasinghe’s amazing work alongside his bowling mates would have come to nothing had Atley pushed his team to within the brink of victory. BBC won by just three wickets chasing 148.
9. George Hales (Terrace)
Hales let the ball sing during a masterly 10 overs of outswing which netted a match winning 6-28. Coming through Terrace, Hales was always a top not player, particularly in the junior school where he was the talk of the lunch break on a Monday morning.
He wound the clock back to those heady days with a remarkable performance that will have him boasting to his mates when he attends reunions in the years ahead.
10. Jordan Hook (BSHS)
Hook plunged through the heart of the Nudgee batting with skilled, left arm pace bowling. He claimed 4-29, and with a lot of help from his bowling teammates - including Sasen Perera (1-15, 10 overs), Hook shook up the Nudgee innings which paved the way for a six wicket win.
11. Oscar Dioth (IGS)
Dioth locked and loaded his arsenal on the Terrace batsman, delivering a stunning new ball assault which mortally wounded the Red and Black line-up.
The paceman dismissed Queensland U17 opener Theodore Bacalakis, boom boy Jackson McDonald, then Nasser and Hawkins. It was a telling spell that should have been enough to see IGS win the game.
12. Tighe Morris (Churchie)
In an innings which saw the TSS batsmen rattle along at five runs an over, Morris’ 3-37 from 10 overs is an elite return. The representative leg spinner claimed top order batsmen as well, and then top scored for Churchie with 21.
SPECIAL MENTIONS
Kethmin Meegasdeniya (BSHS)
He only bowled 17 balls, but the BSHS captain’s impact was profound as he whipped out the Nudgee tail by claiming 3-3.
Sasen Perera (BSHS)
Sometimes it is the bowler who does not get all the wickets, but who plays a team game, who needs to get the plaudits. Perera is that bowler. His 10-1-15-1 was outstanding support for the wicket-taking Jordan Hook.
Ashton Clark and co. (BBC)
Just as Perera deserves his mention, see above, BBC leg-spinner Ashton Clark deserves a special mention for his 10-1-25-1, some of which was bowled in combination with the wicket-taking D’Arcy Satharasinghe. Indeed all BBC’s bowlers had a role to play, with Callan Jensen (1-21), Oliver Hottot, Blake Armstrong (1-32) and Christian Alexander (2-29), building pressure.
Tom Yeo (TGS)
Yeo broke through to claim the most prized wicket of the competition, BBC captain Blake Armstrong, whom he bowled. Yeo also dismissed representative opener Zac Robinson who was set on 33.
Colby Rudd (IGS)
Rudd whipped out the Terrace lower order when he took 3-14. He is in the side for his batting, but his bowling almost tipped the match his team’s way. Gurutva Singh (7.5-1-18-2) also had a good day for IGS.
