Gold Coast Titans sign exciting twins from King’s Christian College

The Gold Coast Titans have won a stampede to sign boom Year 9 twins from King’s Christian College, but a Logan City young gun from Cameron Smith’s old school remains hot property.

The Titans have pulled off a major junior recruitment coup by winning a stampede to sign boom schoolboy rugby league twins from the southern Gold Coast.

King’s Christian College Year 9 brothers Kobe Te Kiri (hooker) and Noah Te Kiri (lock) are white hot junior talents who would have had NRL recruitment scouts lining up to snare them.

But the Titans have won the race to their signature at a time when the club continues to build from within by retaining elite Coast juniors, many of whom have filtered through to the NRL squad.

The Te Kiri boys, who were from the Coomera Cutters, are the outstanding players in their age group.

Both boys have x-factor league talent which cannot be coached, but importantly they are both hard workers who impress with their work ethic and attention to detail.

Kobe is a scheming dummy half who can take advantage of tired bodies around the ruck, but he also uses his speed to aggressively advance in defence and make a tackle.

Noah is more of a destructive No.13 who makes himself less of a target by running low to the ground.

He also had the strength and smarts to be able to unload in contact, all the while defending strongly when needed.

That the boys have earned a contract with the Gold Coast is a feather in their cap because the Titans were selective with their recruitment of junior talent.

They are not the first in their family to see the inside of an NRL club - their uncle Keanu Te Kiri was a boom PBC SHS schoolboy signed by the Roosters, although he did not progress to the NRL.

While the Te Kiri twins have found an NRL home on the Coast, Marsden SHS student Tipene Moyes remains high class unsigned junior talent.

No.13 Moyes was the outstanding player in last season’s Year 8 Renouf Shield competition.

From Cameron Smith’s old school of Marsden SHS, Moyes was the difference in helping Marsden win the premiership and in one match he scored all six tries.

Moyes’ leg drive and footwork on either side of the ruck is hard to handle in his age group.
