Award-winning News Corp photographer Michael Klein had a boundary-side seat to some of the biggest and most beautiful AFL moments in 2022.
Here are some of his favourite shots.
1. MATES
A beautiful moment when Geelong captain Joel Selwood carried Gary Ablett’s son, Levi, on to the MCG on grand final day. I reckon it brought a tear to the toughest of eyes.
2. DAISY
The stars aligned as Melbourne’s Daisy Pearce ran into the late afternoon light at Casey Fields. Exposing my camera for the highlights gave an amazing result.
3. THE DANIHER BROTHERS
Essendon celebrated its 150th year with a big night at the MCG in June. The event brought many past Essendon champions back together and none more so than the Daniher brothers. Seeing Chris help Neale wave to crowd was special.
4. RESPECT
Dreamtime at the ’G. An extremely powerful image when Richmond players circled and took to a knee to honour the First Nations players on their list.
5. WARRIOR
Carlton’s Patrick Cripps in all his glory. Strapping, blood and jubilation sum up the 2022 Brownlow medallist.
6. CHASING SHADOWS
Late afternoon light can make for something a little different when long shadows cast across the turf.
7. HEADBAND THIEF
Boys being boys love a push and shove but a cheeky James Sicily decided to lighten the moment and steal Aaron Naughton’s headband.
8. SKIPPER AND HIS CUP
Geelong captain Joel Selwood climbs on to the MCG fence to show off the prize after the Cats won the 2022 premiership.
9. BROTHERLY LOVE
The famous Daicos name was twice as strong in 2022 as Nick joined his brother, Josh, at the Magpies, a club where their dad, Peter, is a Hall of Famer.
10. YOUNG MAGPIE
Collingwood small forward Jack Ginnivan celebrates towards the packed stands after a goal on Anzac Day when he was named best afield.
