Forget about getting on the beers with skipper Max Gawn. It was Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin’s wedding guest plus-one who had society tongues wagging.
Goodwin arrived to the spare-no-expense nuptials of Hotel Sorrento scion Myles Pitt and his influencer model wife Brooke (nee) Hogan on Thursday, with executive Kristine Brooks on his arm.
It comes after news in January last year of his split with high school sweetheart wife Maggie Goodwin who he shares three children with.
Brooks, who goes by the monniker SugarBrooks on Instagram, is not unknown at the Melbourne Football Club due to her long tenure as chief of distribution at Zurich Financial Services, a principal partner of the club since 2018.
After 15 years at the organisation Sugar, Brooks left in December 2020, joining Milford Asset Management as head of Australian business.
The news comes as no surprise to Sydney siders, with Goodwin spied late last year in the off season enjoying a Harbour Cruise with SugarBrooks and his old Adelaide Crows buddy Phil Davis who now plays for Greater Western Sydney.
The Thursday nuptials look in no shape of winding down soon.
A who’s who of AFL identities and Melbourne society types were partying the night away at the Hotel Sorrento, which has been owned by the Pitt family for more than 40 years after purchasing the sandstone beauty in 1981 when it was operating as a Chinese restaurant.
The couple tied the knot earlier at the breathtaking views of the Sorrento Helipad, with guests making a short walk across to the famed pub which was closed to guests for the day.
Hotel Sorrento chef George Calombaris was in tow, perfecting the menu – think tooth fish, lamb shoulder and calamari – for the extravagant nuptials with Max Gawn and Simon Goodwin sitting opposite each other, again enjoying getting back on the beers and flanked by Demons player Michael Hibberd and former Giant-turned-Demon Adam Tomlinson.
Richmond’s Tom Lynch was showing no signs of that pressing hamstring issue, revelling on the dancefloor well into the night.
Meanwhile, former cult St Kilda player turned Sorrento Sharks coach Troy Schwarze proved he is still the life of the party.
The influencers were also on show, new mum and model Stephanie Claire-Smith and stylist Suzy Eskander are among the well-heeled.
A chopper ride arranged by high flyer Will Deague around the region’s wineries last week kicked off the celebrations.
But don’t think that’s the last of it. The recovery is staged for Friday 1pm at the stately coastal home of hotel owner and patriarch Rob Pitt. Watch this space.
It comes as Melbourne skipper Max Gawn posted a picture of himself with the embattled coach at the high-profile society wedding.
The pair are sitting on a bar at the Sorrento Hotel alongside groom Myles Pitt, whose family owns the high-flying establishment.
Gawn cheekily captioned the picture: “Planning 22’ at the local”.
The Demons have been under siege this week after an exclusive Herald Sun investigation revealed concerns about the behaviour of Goodwin, including drinking and socialising with his players.
Twenty-four hours earlier Gawn had come out in support of his coach, declaring beers in the summer of 2021 had been the catalyst for their drought-breaking premiership victory.
The wedding of Pitt and influencer model Brooke Hogan had the who’s who of Melbourne’s society flocking to the Mornington Peninsula.
Pitt is a diehard Melbourne fan with Gawn, Goodwin and many of the Demons players regulars at the Sorrento Hotel over the summer.
Gawn’s post was liked by teammates Clayton Oliver – who remarked ‘Alpha move’ – and James Harmes. Former Dee Jack Watts also applauded the skipper’s work.
But even more interesting was the support of Melbourne’s most famous supporter Hayden Burbank for the Instagram post.
Nightclub owner Burbank only recently got out of jail in Perth after illegally entering the state back in September to watch his beloved Demons win the flag.
This week the border jumper was also fined in a Darwin court for deception after they falsified Northern Territory driver’s licences in order to get into WA.
