Watch: Daisy Pearce leads star-studded Women in Sport roundtable to talk about equality

On the eve of International Women’s Day, some of the leading minds in Aussie women’s sport gathered at the Pullman in Melbourne to discuss equity on and off the pitch.

The best minds in women’s sport, tackling the biggest issue head on.

KommunityTV joined forces with Women Sport Australia to broadcast a roundtable discussion featuring some of the top female competitors across multiple sports.

The Women.Sport.TheFuture panel discussion, presented by Pullman on the Park, Melbourne, was hosted by AFLW premiership-winning captain Daisy Pearce and WSA president Gen Dohrmann and came on the eve of International Women’s Day on March 8.

The panel also featured former Matildas forward Sarah Walsh, Olympic medallist Melissa Wu and dual-code star and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sharni Norder.

The panel’s discussion revolved around gender equality in sport, including what has been achieved and what still needs to be done to achieve a level playing field for women of all ages. Topics will also include the menstrual cycle, contraceptives, female behaviour and performance, and balancing a sporting career and motherhood.

The issue of gender equality in sport has been well documented, and was put under the microscope this week in issue three of News Corp Australia’s women in sport magazine, Insight Sport.

Insight Sport, which launched earlier this month, has provided an in-depth analysis of the big issues facing female athletes and competitors including body, pride, equality and power.

Pearce led the discussion, and said it was important to keep the fight for gender equity at the forefront of the sporting landscape.

“I think it’s important to continue the conversation around equality in Australian sport, to help us secure a more profitable and prosperous future for emerging female athletes,” Pearce said.

“WOMEN. SPORT. THE FUTURE provides another platform for our voices to be heard and I am proud to be part of the inaugural event.”
