PREVIEW

What an opportunity awaits the North East Blaze on Wednesday night.

Sitting at 3-0, the Blaze will take on reigning premiers City West Falcons in what is sure to be a real early-season competition highlight.

You can catch all three games (U19, Division 1 and Championship) between the two sides LIVE on KommunityTV from 7pm.

Despite seeing some fresh faces welcomed into the team this season, the Blaze are flying as one of a trio of teams still undefeated after three rounds.

In attack, Caitlin Hill, Georgia Moody and Sam Silvester have developed an exciting partnership, which is causing plenty of headaches for opposition defences.

Meanwhile, the mid-court trio of Chloe Lambert, Kali Dolphin and Meg Williams is helping to turn games on its head.

That’s all while Ellis Bayliss and Sarah Hogan continue to balance their roles as co-coaches.

“I think one of the most exciting aspects of our team is that we don’t have two players who are the same,” Hogan said.

“Our versatility is actually an exciting thing to be able to coach. We’re confident that we’re able to throw our players around a bit and they can adjust to any situation.

“Our defenders, including Kaitlyn Black, Ruby Turner and Tayissa Coppinger, are just another example of a group who are playing well.

“We’ve reframed our team this year and these new combinations are working really well so far.

“It’s been exciting to be able to watch them grow so far and there’s still a long way to go.”

Hogan and the Blaze are all too aware of the challenge the Falcons are set to present this weekend.

But Hogan believes Wednesday’s clash will be a “great measuring stick” for her side.

“They’ve been towards the top of the ladder for a number of years because they’ve got a very successful program,” she said.

“It’s going to be a great challenge for us. I think the Falcons are very similar to us with their versatility, so it should make for a great match up.”

Sienna Allen and Zoe Davies looms as important players in defence for the Falcons while Uneea Palavi will be looking to continue her impressive shooting form.

The under-19s match will see some of the competition’s rising stars in action.

Both sides are unbeaten in the first three rounds and Hogan is expecting a brilliant contest.

“There will be a number of state players on display,” she said.

“Our team is exciting to watch. When an opportunity has presented itself, the next person has stepped up.”

The Division 1 clash shapes as important contest in the long run of the season, too.

The Falcons currently sit sixth with two wins to their name while the Blaze have dropped two of their first three.
