Morris, who spent every minute of the match on court, finished with 47 points and shot at over 87 per cent for the night.

Melbourne Vixens goal attack Ruby Barkmeyer split time on the court with young gun Isabelle Hodgson, with the duo adding a combined 34 goals.

Amelia Brock top-scored for the Ariels side with 15 goals, shooting narrowly over 50 per cent.

The Ariels young guns turned the tables on their rivals in the 19 and Under clash on Wednesday night, with a 24-goal haul to Mia Lui spearheading a 56-52 win.

PREVIEW: Vixens young gun leading the charge for the Express

The rapid rise of Super Netball training player Ruby Barkmeyer has the Boroondara Express running hot into the Victorian Netball League season.

But coach Kathleen Knott has warned the best is yet to come for her side as they prepare for a showdown against Ariels in Round 2.

The Wednesday night clash will be live streamed exclusively on KommunityTV, with the triple-header action getting underway with the Championship clash at 7pm.

Knott had expressed her hopes for the side in the pre-season with the addition of their Super Netball training contingent, and Barkmeyer repaid the faith in Round 1.

The goal-attack finished with 21 goals as the Express powered past Peninsula Waves 60-41 last week.

“I think the biggest thing is around expectation, those girls are in an elite training environment where those teams and coaches are used to winning,” Knott said as to what girls like Barkmeyer bring back.

“I think having them bring that back to the group is such an advantage and the immediate feedback that they can provide during the quarter, rather than waiting for it from us on the sideline at quarter time is going to be a benefit as well.

“I thought they did exceptionally well (last week). Casey Adamson is our captain, she led the girls well on court and Ruby shot at 92 per cent, so I think her performing like that gives the girls confidence that they can just get it to her and she can put it in.

“Having said that, we shot at 85 per cent as a group so that is what we are aiming for every week.”

Despite the strong win over Waves last week, Knott is expecting her side to piece together a more complete four quarter performance on Wednesday.

“For us this week we are going to focus on putting four quarters together, we were a bit nervous in our fourth last week,” she said.

“Our girls are going to go out and put four strong quarters together against the Ariels.”

The Ariels side will be smarting after suffering a 60-42 loss to North East Blaze in the opening round, and will be determined to turn the tables on Wednesday night.
