Three games into the new season and reigning Victorian Netball League premiers North East Blaze are still undefeated, but Peninsula Waves certainly made them work particularly hard for their success on Wednesday night.
Blaze started the season with big wins over Ariels and Hawks, but the Waves brought them back down to earth a touch, getting to within five goals at the end - 59-54.

PREVIEW
North East Blaze co-coach Sarah Hogan isn’t getting caught up with the prospect of entering a Round 4 clash against reigning premiers City West Falcons with a 3-0 record.
Instead, she will be making sure her side is honing in on the job at hand this Wednesday when it takes on Peninsula Waves.
The match, which will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV, will prove crucial as both the Blaze (2-0) and the Waves (0-2) search for season-defining wins.
While the ladder-leading Blaze is hopeful of rolling into a big clash with the Falcons the following week undefeated, Hogan has pushed away any thoughts of her side being mentally one round ahead, paying full respect to their upcoming opponent.
“It sounds a bit cliche but we’re just taking one round at a time,” she said.
“We have got (Peninsula) Waves who we had a pre-season game with and we got a decent run, we have three teams so we are looking for all of them to consolidate on good performances so far.
“For us, we are just looking to tomorrow night before we re-evaluate for next week.”
The Blaze had a pre-season match with the Waves, where Hogan – and other co-coach Ella Bayliss – are confident they learned a lot about their opposition.
“Ella Bayliss and I are co-coaching, she took the Championship team for that game and said it was good to try a few new combinations,” she said.
“I suppose, they (Waves) have got some great experience, but they’ve also got some really young players into their line-up as well.
“It’s about playing a consistent game plan for the full four quarters, if we can do that then I think it’ll be a tough ask for them.
“But in saying that, they have a lot of talent and a great coaching staff, I am sure their coach (Keira Cenin) is racking her brain on ways to beat us too.”
The Waves have had a difficult draw to kick start 2023 with Boroondara Express and City West Falcons their first two match-ups of the season so far.
All three matches on Wednesday night will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV.
