They have taken all before them in NSW and now the U16 Bankstown Bruins girls are ready to showcase some of the state’s top hoop prospects in basketball’s heartland.

The National Junior Classic is on this weekend in Melbourne and thanks to a partnership between Basketball Victoria and News Corp, you’ll be able to watch 128 games across the long weekend, including the impressive Bruins in three games.

The Bruins interstate challenge comes just in time for News Corp’s launch of the new grassroots sport live streaming initiative - Kommunity TV.

Launching on Friday, Kommunity TV offers News Corp subscribers full access to a wide array of community sport, streamed to your screen or device, including this weekend’s National Junior Classic.

The girls have been a standout in the Waratah Junior League competition this year, but now they are taking to the big stage and coach Lyle Vallance believes his undefeated team is ready to “compete with the best.”

Abbey Vallance, Jennifer Mailei and Riley Ese are all a big part of the Bruins’ success.

“Bankstown usually don’t send teams down, but our team really wanted the challenge in a very competitive tournament,” Vallance told News Corp.

“It’s very tough to tell how we’ll go because there’s been no interstate games for two or three years, but traditionally the Victorians are very strong.

“They play a very fast and physical type of basketball, so it’ll definitely be up a level from what we’re playing here.”

All eyes will be on the Bruin’s star shooter, 14-year-old Jessie-May Hall, who has been averaging 35 points per game this year.

“The best thing about Jessie-May is not just her natural ability but it’s her competitiveness on the court. She competes hard every game and she just loves playing basketball,” Vallance said.

“She’s one of the best juniors I’ve ever seen and I think she will embrace the challenge this weekend.”

Ese, Vallance and Mailei are all part of the NSW State squad.

Vallance, who has been coaching for 10 years, said even though Jessie-May is his team’s top scorer, it will “take a team to compete this weekend.”

“We’ve got three other players who are in the state team this year, Abbey Vallance, Jennifer Mailei and Riley Ese, so we’re lucky to have a lot of depth.”

“We play a team oriented game and I think that has helped with our success.”

The Bruins will kick off their National Junior Classic campaign against Keiler at 9.50am on Saturday.

Coverage of the event will be held across two different stories with links set to be available to each venue, so you can tune into the action live.
