Hallam coach Janan Billings said not only was it a fantastic win, but the motivation for this week came right after the final whistle.

A message from the Patricia Brothers Fairfield coach gave them added reason to be confident of more success.

“I had a chat to him after the game and he said ‘you have nothing to lose’,” Billings revealed.

“His words were rattle the cage, be physical with them and take them to task.

“We’ve got a very good and very big forward pack, so we’re going to go out there and hold no prisoners.”

It's been a big year for Hallam College.

Billings said there’s plenty of confidence in the team of another good showing.

“We are going to go in very confident of getting the job done,” he said.

“We’ve done our homework and watched them play.

“We know what they are good at and know what their weaknesses are.

“We’re under no illusions that it’s going to be a tough challenge and a big ask.”

The player of the last match for Hallam was Waka Hammond, with the fullback scoring a glorious try to help the team win.

Billings said while Hammond deserved the plaudits, the focus for him and the side was providing a team effort to create chances in the contest.

He added Hammond won’t let the credit get to his head.

“We look at the one or two percenters and those who done the hard work to lay the platform,” he said.

“While he finishes it beautifully a lot of the time, the unsung heroes are the players who carried it one or two or three times before he finishes.

“We don’t put him up in the limelight, we put him back down and make sure he is grounded.”

Central Coast Sports College coach Michael Sullivan said the side was wary of what Hallam can provide.

“We watched the game, obviously, against Fairfield, so we picked up a fair bit on that,” he said.

“The beauty of live streams is we get video on it and can sort of identify strengths and weaknesses that we think we can make the most of our life.

“But we will more take care of ourselves and work on our shape and things like that, make sure we put out the best and healthiest squad we can out against them.”

Sullivan said the side would be disappointed if their season ended on Wednesday.

“We’re happy (to have gotten this far) but to be fair, we would have been disappointed if we didn’t make it.

“We’re kind of disappointed we didn’t get two cracks at it, but it means it’s just knock-out footy now.

“We’ve just got to believe in our systems and go as far as we can.

“I think we’re a great team.

“Our squad is strengthening every year, even just in the last 12 months.

“Our stocks are sort of strengthening every month at the college as we get more recognition.”
