Replay: Manor Lakes v The Grange - Storm Cup round 5

Mount Ridley will play finals in the Storm Cup after Manor Lakes’ season came to an end with a tough 74-4 loss to The Grange.

The Grange led 10-0 inside the first five minutes to virtually end any hope Manor Lakes had of making the finals. They extended that advantage out to 50 at halftime.

The Grange’s Nathaniel Sialaoa scored the opening two tries of the match and by the time the game finished, the winger had five tries to his name.

The victors scored 15 for the match to register the second largest win of the Storm Cup season. Hallam had earlier scored 84 points against Manor Lakes.

Manor Lakes were more competitive in the second half, scoring their first and only try of the match and only conceding 24 points.

But the damage was done in the first half as The Grange secured third with the win.

The semi-finals will now see Hallam take on Mount Ridley with Victoria University to play The Grange.

The winners of those two contests will meet in the grand final.

PREVIEW

The newest Storm Cup club could provide late drama as the last finals spot goes on the line on Friday.

The equation is simple for Manor Lakes, win or draw against The Grange and fourth spot is sealed, which would be a historic first finals appearance for the school.

A loss would see the team eliminated and Mount Ridley, who had a chance to secure their spot on Wednesday, but were beaten heavily by Hallam College, seal fourth spot for themselves.

Manor Lakes could have been in the semifinals already if they had not let a big lead slip in their last encounter against Mount Ridley.

The team led 20-4 off the back of a hat-trick to young fullback Nathaniel Tandy.

But Manor Lakes couldn’t hold on as Mount Ridley came back to lead 26-20 late.

A last grasp try to Manor Lakes drew the game, keeping them in the hunt for the fourth spot and finals.

Manor Lakes need a win with their for and against worse than Mount Ridley.

The Grange, who will finish third regardless of the result, will be looking for a win before their upcoming semifinal clash with Victoria University.

They have been competitive against both Vic Uni and Hallam College and will be aiming to make it hard for Manor Lakes to qualify.
