PREVIEW

It’s been a tough tournament for Queensland so far. Out of six teams at the FA National Boys Youth Championships in Wollongong, only two have reached the quarter-final stage.

The other four all feature at Ian McLennan Oval on Friday as they look to regroup and finish in style.

Fans won’t have to wait long either to see them in action. The day begins at 9am with an all-Queensland battle between the White and Silver U15 teams.

The White team sandwiched a 1-0 win over WA in between 2-0 defeats to NSW Metro Navy and Victoria Silver to finish third in their group.

Conceding goals was a major concern for the Silver team in their opening three matches. A small matter of 12 of them left them stuck in the Pool C basement.

It’s then over to the Queensland Maroon U16s at 11.50pm and a clash with NSW Country before Queensland Silver U16s close off the day at 4.05pm against Victoria Silver.

It was a case of so near, yet so far for the Western Australia U16 team. After leading their Pool after two games, a 5-2 defeat on Thursday meant they missed the final eight.

Now they begin the battle for ninth place with a clash against Tasmania from 2.40pm.
