Berwick College have defied the odds to be crowned national champions after a gripping 10-point win over Trinity College in a captivating contest that had the crowd in raptures.
After going cold from deep late in the third quarter to let Trinity back in the game, Berwick came out swinging in the final quarter to reestablish a crucial buffer.

For Berwick, big Truman Byrne had strong moments - despite falling victim to a brutal Deng Manyeng poster- while Phoenix Windsor, Seb RaultCedric Rault and Heath McPherson all produced crucial buckets.
Berwick didn’t come to the tournament with the same individual firepower as other schools, but reaped the rewards of the plethora of consistent depth their program has produced.
As they have been all tournament, Deng Manyang and Aidan Schubert were immense for Trinity.
Manyang was at his trademark entertaining best from the outset, producing dunks thay brought the crowd to its feet and blocks that no doubt will give his opponents nightmares.
Schubert continued to find crafty and creative ways to get to the basket and fought tooth and nail for boards.
WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP GOLD PLAYOFF
Brisbane SHS 73 d Immanuel College 62
It was the moment it became clear Brisbane SHS were on another level.
Prasayus Notoa, whose vision shone through all game with some exceptional assists, rose above her Australia Sapphires teammate Sienna Lehmann to deliver a brutal block.

Inspired by their leader’s class, the Queensland school went on to record an 11-point win in the women’s championship decider at the Basketball Australia Schools Championships.
Gia Vukona also stepped up with her best showing across the tournament.
The daughter of New Zealand basketball great Mika Vukona put her silky skills and footwork on full display as she finished superbly from close range.
It was a testing shooting day for Immanuel, with missed attempts from beyond the arc adding up and proving costly.
Notoa’s Sapphire squad teammates, Sharni Reisinger and Alleah Hanson, also impressed as the win capped off an undefeated tournament for Brisbane who were exceptional from start to finish.
MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP THIRD PLACE PLAYOFF
Lake Ginninderra 99 d Brisbane Boys High 96 (OT)
With Jacob Furphy running wild, Lake Ginninderra have pulled off an incredible overtime victory in the men’s third place championship playoff at the Basketball Australia Schools Championships.
Down by more than 20 points midway through the third term, the Lakers rallied spectacularly, with recently-minted Boomer Furphy weaving his offensive magic both under the basket and from three-point range.
Brisbane, with Charlie Winks and Emerson Juhasz leading the way, had raced out to a 60-38 lead midway through the third term, but they simply had no answer to Furphy’s genius as the pressure built.
After a quiet opening, Furphy suddenly came alive in the final quarter, hitting six triples and his side’s first 18 points as the recovery took hold. He landed an incredible 28 points in that quarter and overtime alone.
Furphy ended up with 39 points all up for the match and 162 points, at an average of 27 per game, for the week-long tournament
Aleer Chol was the initial savior for Lake Ginninderra, nailing a free throw with 10 seconds left to send it into overtime.
From there, the lead changed three more times before the Lakers eventually took control.
WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP THIRD PLACE PLAYOFF
Barker College 81 d Rowville College 73
Resilient Barker College completed an excellent week’s work at the BA Schools Championships by taking third place in the women’s championship.
Beaten in the semifinals by Immanuel College a little over 12 hours earlier, Barker backed up in style to take down Victorian giants Rowville College by eight points.
The result was very much in the balance up until the last 60 seconds when Leah Fowler nailed a three-pointer to give Barker valuable breathing room.
Barker raced out to an early lead and then finishing powerfully after Rowville looked to have snatched all the momentum.
It’s the second time this week the Sydney-based school had beaten Rowville.
Lucy Mead and Jessie May Hall were the driving force behind their one-point success on Tuesday and they were again instrumental in this winning performance.
Mead top scored with 23 points while Hall led from the front, scoring 19 points and showing true commitment to the cause with brave plays as Rowville threatened.
Barker led by 11 points at the main break but the momentum swung to the Victorians in the third quarter on the back of a 30-12 run.
A masterful shooting performance from Manuela Puoch was iinflential in that. The Southside Flyers WNBL star top-scored for the match with 27 points.
