The Casey Cavaliers must have eaten all their Weetbix for breakfast on day two of the Basketball Australia Under-14 Championships.

Their Pool A demolition job on the North Adelaide Rockets on Court 1 was a clear statement that they intend to be around at the business end of proceedings.

Precision passing and superior accuracy around the net saw the Cavaliers build an unassailable 51-14 halftime lead as the visitors from across border had no answer to Casey on their home court.

Despite massive margin, the Rockets showed plenty of resilience in the back half to reduce the deficit by four points but the Casey boys were always cruising home for a 86-53 victory.

Knox Raiders and Gold Coast Rollers have played out a thrilling contest where seldom more than a basket separated both boys’ sides on Court 1.

One point was the margin in favour of the Rollers at halftime, before the Raiders returned the favour, if you can call it that, with a one-point advantage (68-67) at the final buzzer.

Meanwhile, two national girls’ crowns in five days remains alive for the Melbourne Tigers after they regained their composure to squeeze out a terrific extra-time victory.

Swamped 19-5 by the Warwick Senators in the final quarter, the Tigers somehow found themselves locked together 53-all with their fast-finishing rivals at the end of normal time.

But that was as much ground as the Tigers were willing to yield as they dug deep to take out the thrilling contest 58-55 on Court 3.

The Perry Lakes Hawks have edged out the South Adelaide Panthers by six points in their boys’ contest, which featured several stunning momentum swings.

The Hawks gave up a four-point halftime lead to trail by 10 at the final change.

Remarkably, they swung the momentum in their favour again with a stunning 32-16 final quarter to claim an incredible 68-62 victory.

Casey girls made a double celebration for the club after the boys saluted earlier in the day when they easily took down Central Coast in their match-up.

They were always in control on their way to a 69-30 result.

Next on the agenda is the opening game on Court 3 at 9am on Monday morning against WA side Warwick Senators. Then it’s a big test against South Australian champions South Adelaide Panthers later in the day.

The boys side upstaged Queensland big guns Gold Coast Rollers by a solitary point on the back of 15 points from Hugh Tan and a 14-point haul from Angus Sallie. They next face South Adelaide Panthers on Court 3 at 10.30am on Monday.

The Rollers themselves will be looking to find winning form against Knox Raiders at the same time on Court 1 and will be hoping Isaiah Fruean can repeat his 31-point haul from the opening game.

The locals are sure to be out in force when two impressive opening day girls winners clash in what could well decide the winner of Pool F.

Sixteen points from Isabella Squires helped hosts Casey Cavaliers beat Cockburn Cougars. Now they face Central Coast Rebels, who beat Canberra on Sunday, at midday on Court 1.

Every match of the Basketball Australia Under-14 Club Championships will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV from September 22 to 27.
