The best ballers from the bush, and across the Tasman, will be on the hunt for national glory when the Australian Junior Country Basketball Cup comes to Albury-Wodonga in January.

For the second-straight year, action from the annual tournament will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV across News Corp Australia’s state-based and regional mastheads.

HOW CRITICAL SHIFT HAS RAISED NSW COUNTRY EXPECTATIONS

KommunityTV cameras will capture all of the action from two courts across the Cup’s five days from January 16-20, including the show court action at the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre and the Wodonga Leisure Centre.

The time-honoured tournament includes rising basketball talents from regional centres across New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania as well as travelling teams from New Zealand.

Athletes will compete across boys and girls competitions in Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 age divisions.

Victoria are the reigning champions in both Under-18 divisions after Ballarat rising star Ned Renfree inspired a huge Bushrangers comeback over NSW Waratahs.

The Victorians will again be one of the favourites to take out the Under-18s crown in 2024, but will face stiff competition especially from neighbouring state South Australia, who have built a highly-competitive country basketball representative program in recent years.

The Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup has produced several top-tier Australian basketball talents including Opals and Boomers legends Lauren Jackson and Patty Mills in its 36-year history, and with more than 600 athletes expected to compete across two basketball stadiums in January, there is a big chance viewers might just discover the next legend-in-waiting.

ACJBC organizer Bert Bargeus said the tournament was originally set-up as a pathway for regional athletes to have the opportunity to compete on a national stage, and had started as a strictly Under-16s event before growing to include three different age groups.
