It was the biggest cats in the jungle who roared the loudest after a massive week of action at the ianugural Basketball Australia Under-18 Club Championships in Perth.

The indominatable Melbourne Tigers maintained their unbelievable record on the courts to clinch the girls title, while the Central District Lions from South Australia shocked the tournament to win the boys title.

The Tigers girls took their winning record to 49-straight wins, and their titles to four for the year, after defeating Western Australia side Perry Lakes Hawks in the final.

The Lions had to overcome the size, skill and undeniable fight of the Willetton Tigers, almost giving up a remarkable lead in the final quarter of a gold medal thriller.

Western Australia has a strong presence in the tournament with a strong contingent of local clubs ready to take up the fight against their interstate rivals.

That includes the Rio Tinto Wildcats Academy in the boys tournament. The Academy squad is full of the best young talent in Western Australia including Charlie and Max Dimmock, Timothy Ibukunoluwa and towering 225cm viral giant Jongkuch Mach.

The boys tournament also features perennial Victorian heavyweights Dandenong Rangers and Knox Raiders as well as clubs from the ACT, Tasmania and South Australia.

They will come up against an impressively stacked Canberra line-up as well as NSW contenders Hills Hornets and Norths Bears, the latter crowned Division 2 champions in the Warartah Junior Metro League this year.

In terms of home grown talents, Joondalup Wolves, Rockingham Flames, Warwick Senators, Perry Lakes Hawks, Lakeside Lightning, Cockburn Cougars and Binar will fly the flag for Western Australia.
