The NBA Global Academy finished the regular round play with a bang as the Ivor Burge women made their first appearance at the National Championships. Watch the Court 3 REPLAYS.

They call the third quarter the championship quarter, and the NBA Global Academy proved why.

Up by five at the main break, the young stars of the future turned on a clinic in the third term to blow South Australia Blue off the court.

Gabriel Pozzato (15 points) and Rocco Zikarsky (13 points, 10 rebounds) went berserk off the bench as the Global Academy racked up a 29 point term to cruise home to a 83-58 victory to close out the action on day three.

With Victorian native Dash Daniels out with injury, the NBA Global Academy side had to dig deep into their rotations to pull off the 28-point win.

Hamad Mousa led from the front for the side with a double-double, racking up 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with his four assists.

The Ivor Burge women returned with a bang, but it was case of new year, same story as NSW and Victoria opened their accounts in style.

The Victorian’s were dominant, with captain Montana Haag playing almost every minute of their tournament opener against Queensland.

Haag hit shots from all over the court, including two massive long-range two-pointers, to help the Victorians to a shut-out victory.

NSW also made short work of the Victorian Navy side in their opener.

The surprise packet of the first day of Ivor Burge action was the Australian Capital Territory side who impressed with a 17-7 win over South Australia.

It’s time to talk about whether Queensland are the under-20 women’s favourites.

They’ve put a huge tournament together so far and they’re showing no signs of slowing down.

Star Jess Petrie is firing on all cylinders, currently averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds, and only looks to be getting better as the week rolls on.

While her offensive stats are impressive, it’s her work on the defensive end which caught our eye on Thursday against South Australia Red.

Petrie finished with three blocks and three steals to play a huge role in her side’s rollercoaster win.

Queensland’s depth is equally as impressive.

Jade Peacock is averaging 8.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and two assists off the bench while Phoebe Holmes has shown she can run the show in the second unit.

Lil Dart and Lulu Twidale are scoring threats themselves in the starting five and are the perfect foil for their star teammate.

With a quarter-final place already booked, it’s now a game of wait and see for the Sunshine State to see who they’ll face in Friday’s quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, South Australia Blue picked up their first win of the men’s tournament with a nailbiting four-point victory over a gallant Tasmania.

Darcy McNamara and Franciz Mayol, who came off the bench, top-scored with 18 each in the 87-83 win.

Tasmania were best served by a massive game from Lachlan Brewer, who hit 31 points, took down nine rebounds and made four assists.

Pointscoring machine Kye Savage didn’t miss out either, hitting 28 points.
