Sturt also enjoyed success in the senior men reserves grand final, when they kept their part of the bargain with 23-point victory against South Adelaide.
The men’s outfit asserted their authority on the contest the longer it went, as they downed the Panthers 100-77 at the State Basketball Centre.
After a tight first quarter where only three points separated the two teams, the Sabres blew the margin out in the second and third quarters to take an 18-point lead into the final quarter.
The Panthers refused to wilt, but simply couldn’t make inroads as the Sabres rolled to a thoroughly deserved win.
Earlier, a dynamite third quarter was the driving force behind the Forestville Eagles blowing away the Sturt Sabres in their senior reserve women’s decider.
Forestville came into the grand final off the back of a convincing preliminary final win against Norwood, and showed no signs of letting up as the aggressor.
Bursting out of the blocks, the Eagles had reached double figures long before the Sabres had even registered their second basket.
Sturt did eventually settle to stem the bleed and slowly made ground as the quarter progressed, even claiming the lead before quarter time.
The second term ebbed and flowed early on for both combatants, with some superb perimeter throwing a real feature.
But midway through the quarter it was the Eagles who clicked into gear again to blow the margin out to 12 points nearing the half.
The third quickly developed into a procession as the Eagles racked up a further 29 points to stretch the margin out to 20 points at three-quarter time.
The Sabres had no answer to the Eagles’ quick transition down the court and faultless passing game.
With the heat out of the contest, the Sabres made up some ground early in the last to give themselves a glimmer of hope as they reduced the margin to 15 points.
But it was always going to be the Eagles’ night as they cruised home for a convincing 113-92 victory.
North Adelaide has regrouped after a slow start to take down Woodville in the men’s under-21 division 1 grand final at The Lights complex.
Despite trailing by two points at the first change, the Rockets banged on 31 points in the second to take a 13-point lead and growing confidence into the main break.
The margin blew out to 16 points at the last change before a stirring fightback saw the Warriors get within six points with just under two minutes remaining.
But North Adelaide was having none of it, steadying to claim a well-deserved 101-99 win, which came with a booming three-pointer right on the buzzer.
