It will be the second-straight year the Under-16 titles have been played out of Red Energy Arena with every game exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV.

The Victoria Metro boys did not drop a game on their way to a third-straight title last year, and they will start red hot favourites to make it four-in-a-row in 2025.

The girls competition appears to be wide open this year after last year’s tournament standout, Queensland South’s Olivia Olechnowicz, graduated to the Under-18s level in 2025.

The defending champs still have plenty of firepower in their side, but they will face some tough challenges from SA Country and Metro and Victoria Country and Metro.

It all begins on Saturday, July 5 with a big twin bill – Victoria Country v SA Country (boys) and Victoria Country v SA Metro (girls) – before the other teams enter the fray on Sunday, July 6.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

The Victoria Metro boys have been an unstoppable force at the Under-16s National Championships and there is a lot to suggest they can keep up the run of success.

While Benjamin Ware-Drakeford is the only player to return from last year’s championship winning outfit, the side is still filled with talent.

The Victorians have added dunk machine Mobarede Akingbade to their line-up this season after he set the Under-14 National Club Championships on fire last year.

The front court giant was a key part of Casey Cavaliers run to the national title last year.

They will have their fair share of challengers including a South Australia Metro side spearheaded by shooter Edward Whitehouse.

The South Adelaide guard was among the top point scorers at the club championships last year, averaging 23.5 per game.

Last year’s grand finalists NSW Metro only have one player returning to the Under-16 nationals, but he is one massive presence.

Towering at over 200cm tall, Manly-Warringah youngster Luka Stevanovic will be a major part of their plans.

The girls

After failing to defend their title at last year’s tournament, the SA Metro girls will return with a vengeance to reclaim the crown in 2025.

The croweaters have a roster packed with talent including a pair of sharpshooters out of the Sturt Sabres in Lucy Allen and Evelyn Bell.

The pair were among the top point scorers at last year’s Under-14 club championships and know how to find the net.

Last year’s bronze medallists WA Metro will have a couple of players return to Bendigo in Hannah Summers and Evelyn Hawley, while Victoria Metro will look to 189cm Bulleen forward Ilana Tamburrini to lead the charge.

Victoria Country, who finished narrowly outside the medals last year, will have exciting Bendigo talent Mia Cox playing at guard.

Cox will be joined in the squad by Braves teammate Molly Beaseley while Marley Alimpic will add experience to the line-up after playing in last year’s bronze medal showdown.
