Will Kew be stopped this season?
It is a question that many will be left to ponder after the defensive stoush of the Bears claimed another VAFA victim on Saturday.
The undefeated Bears proved too powerful, despite a late fourth-quarter fight back from West Brunswick, running out 4.5 (29) to 2.2 (14) winners.
Having to battle their way through a mire, the Magpies scored the first goal of the game after Olivia Artaiz forced a holding the ball free kick inside forward 50.
But that would be the only time the black and whites had the lead after Grace Osbourne levelled the scores late in the first quarter to kick the Bears into gear.
The Bears led by more than a goal at the first break, and had extended that beyond three goals at the main break.
The Magpies kept the VAFA Premier Women’s ladder leaders to a solitary behind in the final quarter and added a major of their own, but the fight back proved too little, too late for the side.
It capped off a great afternoon at McAllister Oval for Kew, with their premier reserves side running out 3.5 (23) to 2.3 (15) winners over the Magpies in the earlier clash.

Preview: Defensive juggernaut to be put to the test in VAFA showdown
Defensive juggernaut Kew will be put to the supreme test on Saturday when they come up against one of the VAFA Premier Women’s leading goalkickers.
The undefeated Bears have only conceded 128 points in eight games so far this season.
In three of those games, they have let in less than 10 points, including the last time they faced Saturday’s opponents, West Brunswick.
But with eight goals in her last five games, Magpies spearhead Sophie Stewart gives the Kew defence plenty to think about.

Stewart, one of the competition’s top goalkickers with 12 majors, will be a strong target up forward for the Pies.
She has kicked three goals twice in the last five weeks and is coming off back-to-back matches where she has hit the scoreboard.
While Kew don’t have that individual player hitting double figures just yet - Amelia Dawborn and Tennille Nash share the way with five goals each this year - they have still found a way to amass a competition leading 450 points.
They are coming off two tense victories against fellow title contenders Old Scotch and St Kevins before last weekend’s bye.
The fifth-placed Pies will be looking for their sixth win of the season to inch closer to a top four finals position - and they have won three of their last five games, including last weekend’s three-pojint success over Fitzroy.
They’ll want to forget the last time the two teams met though. West Brunswick only scored one point.
