PREVIEW

Amidst a difficult season on their ascension to the VAFA Premier Women’s competition, the rapid rise of a pair of Coburg players has helped keep the energy flowing at Piranha Park.

Lions midfielders Sheridan Bennett and Kiana Minchin have been in the reserves at various stages during the season, but their inspiring hard work and skill has seen them rise up to become regulars in the senior side.

You can catch both of them LIVE on KommunityTV on Saturday when Coburg, who have only won once in the opening six rounds, face Caulfield Grammarians in Reserves and Premier matches from 9.40am. See the schedule below.

Lions captain Amy Duguid sang the praises of both players ahead of the mid-table clash.

“She (Bennett) is a tall winger for us and has legs for days,” she said.

“Her ball pressure is unbelievable and the way she is able to lift the team with her intensity and attitude is unreal.”

Forward-midfielder Minchin started the season in the senior side but had to miss a few games due to outside commitments, which has resulted in her working her way back into the ‘strong’ senior side through the reserves.

“She just proved herself to have a have a solid spot in the senior side after working really hard in the reserve team,” Duguid said.

“She is another one who just lifts that intensity and ball use is unbelievable.”

The Lions have struggled to score of late, kicking just five goals and 35 points in total in the past three rounds.

But they showed how capable they are when they smashed tghe century mark back in round two against Old Xaverians.
