Dandenong Stingrays showcased their title potential with an eight-goal demolition of Greater Western Victoria in a Coates Talent League girls match on Saturday.
The Stingrays, who sit well inside the top four on the ladder, raced out to a 24-0 quarter-time lead on the back of four straight goals.
They added four more in the third quarter to put the game to bed, eventually winning 9.3 (57) to 1.3 (9).

GWV Rebels v Dandenong Stringrays (Boys)
Meanwhile, a wayward kicking display made Greater Western Victoria’s Coates Talent League boys win over Dandenong much closer than it should have been.
The Rebels had over three times the scoring shots in the first half but only led by 10 points at the main break.
Their inaccuracy continued into the second half, although they did punctuate their run of behind with three third-quarter majors and another one in the final term.
In the end, they eventually won 8.16 (64) to 5.1 (31) and are very much in the hunt now for the finals.

The 2023 Coates Talent League season has seen the club uncover untapped talents in their girls team, who will return to action on Saturday against the Dandenong Stingrays.

Among those to have turned heads is 17-year-old Claire Mahony, who is experiencing her first season at a Coates League club.
The Lake Wendouree product has caught the eye in her five games so far, averaging 11 disposals.
While it’s not a massive number, it’s the value those disposals provide, according to Rebels talent manager Brooke Brown.
“Her knowledge of the game has improved out of sight,” she said.
“Claire isn’t someone who has come through the under-16 part of our program and has really grown since coming in this year.
“She wants to learn and that’s one of the most important parts of her development.
“It’s incredible to look at where she has come from since the start of pre-season.”
The Rebels are also home to several top line talents across girls’ teams.
Jess Rentsch (AFLW Academy) and Lily Jordan (Under-23 All Stars) will take their place in the girls’ side this weekend.
The pair were opponents last week in a showcase of the best female football talent in the country.
“They’ve both shown some really good signs and we’re hoping to help them achieve their dreams,” Brown said.
“The girls are in a good place at the moment, we had eight players try out for the under-18 Vic Country side, which is a big number for our club.”
Meanwhile, the boys team faces a stern test against the sixth-placed Stingrays as they aim to keep pace with the top sides in the race for finals action.
Fortunately for the Rebels, they’re set to be boosted by the inclusions of Vic Country representatives Lachlan Charleson, Luamon Lual, Joel Freijah and George Stevens this weekend.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming them back,” Brown said.
“Dandenong is always a tough test but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
