Down by 15 points at three-quarter time, Sandringham Dragons outscored Calder Cannons 43-8 in the final term to pull off a stunning 20-point Coates Talent League boys victory at Trevor Barker Oval on Saturday.
The Cannons led by three at halftime and looked to have the game under control when they led 63-48 at the final change.
But the Dragons rallied superbly and took the lead on the back of three quick majors.
The Cannons bounced back to lead 69-67 but they couldn’t hold off the big Dragons finish, with big man Archie May putting the seal on the victory with a goal after the siren.
Both teams are right in the finals, with the victory moving the Dragons up to fourth, while the Cannons stay third.

PREVIEW
The Coates Talent League form of Sandringham Dragons big man Archie May is demanding of AFL attention.
Since returning to the Dragons program in recent weeks, after starting the season with Richmond’s VFL side, May has thrived.
And he’ll be looking to continue that form when the Dragons play host to the Calder Cannons at Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Saturday.
Catch the match as the first part of a boys/girls double header LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on KommunityTV from 11.30am. See the full LIVE STREAM schedule below.

In four games this season, May has kicked 12 goals, including four against the Gippsland Power last time out.
Sandringham talent manager Mark Wheeler declared May was “starting to show what he can do”.
“Since coming back to us, he’s been in really good form,” he said.
“He’s a 19-year-old prospect who got some VFL opportunities because of the injury issues Richmond were having with their big men at AFL level. He’s a strong, physical presence and is making the most of his chances.
“He’s hitting the scoreboard, which is really exciting.”
While there is no school footy commitments this weekend, the Dragons will be without a host of their top draft hopefuls due to Vic Metro commitments.
But that’s set to open the door for others, including Luke Lloyd, who recently finished his school footy commitments with De La Salle.
He made headlines earlier in the year after booting 17 majors in a game.
“He’s going very well, it’s good to have Luke back,” Lloyd said.
“His hands above his head are elite and so is his kicking around the ground. The best thing about this week, other than the Vic Metro boys, is he is available.
“The guys who have played in recent weeks because players have been missing have taken their opportunities. So we made it clear, people shouldn’t be expecting to walk straight back into the side.
“We’ll probably rotate a bit in the next couple of weeks, so boys shouldn’t be disappointed if they’re not picked this week.”
The Dragons and Cannons girls will do battle from 2pm with the home side entering the game on the back of three straight wins.
Wheeler said the club had been incredibly proud of the growth the playing group had shown.
“We’ve taken some big steps forward,” he said.
“We were a little disappointed with the number of players we had selected for Vic Metro but we told those who missed out to use that to drive them. There’s another game later in the year, so it’s good there’s another chance.
“Girls have come into the side and had a really positive impact.”
One young gun to keep an eye on is 16-year-old Gabrielle Trajer.
She made her debut against the Gippsland Power last weekend, registering 11 disposals and four tackles.
“She looked like she had played at the level for the previous 10 weeks, she made a really impressive start,” Wheeler said.
“Sophie McKay is another younger player who is having a good season. Our bottom-age players have been taking their opportunities and are now playing bigger roles for us.”
