The lessons don’t come much harsher than a 100-plus point loss to a premiership contender but there is still plenty of belief from within the walls of Hobart the club is improving in 2025.
The Tigers were beaten by 121 points against Huonville Lions last round and assistant coach Matthew Ferguson said the defeat was a big wake up call.
Now the Tigers will host Dodges Ferry on Saturday live streamed exclusively on KommunityTV from 2pm.
“It’s been a year of improvement from where we have come from over the last couple of years,” Ferguson said.
“Having a new coach who has brought new ideas and brought a professionalism about him, it’s been really good.
“We have had a really good month up until Saturday, in which we didn’t play all that well but we’ve had a couple of wins so it has given us some good belief that we can compete.”
The Sharks are coming off two big wins, and Ferguson said his side will need to take the lessons from the Huonville game to bounce back.
“Last Saturday was disappointing, we didn’t play the way we want to play,” Ferguson said.
“Bundy (Allen Christensen) told them the way it was and then we had a pretty good training session on Tuesday night.
“Plenty of contested work and working on what didn’t do well on the weekend so hopefully we can bounce back this weekend.
“They (Sharks) play a very fast, attacking style of footy, and they have got some key forwards so we will just have to try and slow them down and slow their scoring down, try and be really contested against them and basically just try and slow them down.”
Sharks defender Ben Steinbauer said his side won’t be taking the Tigers lightly.
“We are feeling pretty good, we are starting to put in some polish to our structures and players are really starting to buy in,” Steinbauer said.
“As a team we are taking every team the same, we are taking it as a final every week and play our best football and play four quarters no matter who the team is, we will go out there and play our best football.
“I think it has really worked for us (being the hunters) and I think we will keep going with that, just focusing on us more than other teams and getting better every week.”
Live stream coverage will begin with the reserves at 12pm on Saturday before the seniors take to the field at 2pm.
