A second half onslaught led by livewire Paul Curtis has lifted the Western Jets to an unlikely win over the previously undefeated Sandringham Dragons at Trevor Barker Oval.
In what was the first in a series of blockbuster NAB League matches to be streamed live and exclusive on the Herald Sun website, Curtis slotted all four of his goals inside the first 15 minutes after the main break.

His performance caught the eye of AFL talent manager Kevin Sheehan, who was in commentary for the match.

“The emergence of Paul Curtis as a guy, not just who has got potential but he has now got performance as well,” Sheehan said.
“That is what you want to have as a player. He ticked the box for being in the best few players on the ground for your side rather than just showing some flashes of brilliance.”
Curtis’ efforts propelled the Jets to nine second-half goals while the Dragons could manage just four.
The 15 point win was the Jets’ second for the year.
With mid-season draft fancy Jacob Edwards missing the clash due to school football commitments, Geelong category B rookie Paul Tsapatolis gave the Jets first use in the ruck and kicked a goal, while Dragon Eren Solymez – who took part in the Young Guns game last month - was lively with two majors.
“I loved the work of Tsapatolis – the big fella from Geelong who played in the ruck,” Sheehan added.
“He gave them that competitive edge right from the start with his ability not just to get his hands on the ball up in the air but to fight on at ground level and then showed that he has a few strings to his bow.”
The Dragons were missing potential first-round selections Campbell Chesser and Josh Sinn due to injury.
However, that allowed Finn Callaghan to show off his draft credentials.
“Callaghan I think probably stands up as the best player for Sandy,” Sheehan said.
“I think there is another level to go with that young fella.
“(He’s got) a bit of Jackson Macrae or Josh Kelly about him I think. Very, very composed, lovely size at 189cm, beautiful athlete, normally uses the ball so well.
“Again, he has only played about four games at this sort of level. I think there is a lot more to see of Finn Callaghan as the year unfolds.”
