Talented apprentice Madeline Owen has two rides at Wyong for her two biggest fans, namely Hall Of Famer Ron Quinton and her mother, Karen.
Owen, who is mostly on show in and around the Mid-North Coast region, caught the eye of eight-time Champion Sydney Jockey and multiple Group 1 trainer Ron Quinton, who is widely acknowledged as the modern day version of Theo Green,
Apprentices who served their time under Quinton’s care and attention include Hugh Bowman, Sam Clipperton, Mitchell Bell, Andrew Adkins, Mitch Newman et al.
Karen Owen couldn’t have wished for a better mentor for her daughter.
“Whether I am biased or not, I do think Madeline is a very good rider,” she said.
“She is a very gutsy rider too.

“Even growing up, she was always flinging around on the ponies at a hundred miles an hour without a saddle or bridle even, just doing crazy things like because she is quite fearless.
“She does the form quite well too and spends a lot of time on it.
“Even while she was suspended, she was watching quite a few races; she is pretty good like that.”
Madeline Owen will partner Karen’s mare Fay’s Angels in the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m).
It will be her 23rd race ride on the daughter of Caulfield Guineas winner Anacheeva with a record of four wins and six placings.
Fay’s Angels is $126 to join an honour roll that boasts Johan’s Toy, Fitou, Savatiano, Asiago, More Prophet’s as well as Jade Tiara, the mother of Taree-bred, Hong Kong idol, Silent Witness.
“It’s just a starting point for Fay’s Angels,” the Taree-based trainer said.
“They will be a bit sharp for her but to be honest Wyong was a bit closer than travelling all the way to Sydney for a benchmark race.
“I think she will run well though because she is in really good order.
“She has been working well and she trialled well.
“She will do her best.”
Win, lose or draw, there are plenty of options open to Owen for the remainder of the Spring, both in town and country.
“If she was to go really well, we could look at things like the Five Diamonds down the track but that might be a bit pie in the sky,” Owen said.
“There are quite a few Cups, maybe the Port Macquarie, Taree Cup and the Country Classic.”
Whereas Fay’s Angels is the outsider of the field in the feature, Owen’s ride for Quinton, Generous Harry, looks likely to start favourite in the De Bortoli Wines Maiden Plate (1000m).
“I haven’t watched its trials but Maddy told me she thought it was a good ride,” Owen said.
Generous Harry’s current C.V reads two seconds from three starts.
No horse can claim to have been more impressive than Generous Harry in the mornings of either if his two dazzling trial wins.
Generous Harry is the latest member of the ‘Pedrille’ dynasty to emerge from the Ron Quinton stable.
Quinton’s ‘first good horse’ was Generous Harry’s grandam, Mamzelle Pedrille, who won at 11 separate venues in three States.
Among those wins were seven stakes wins as well as a Gold Coast Flying Handicap win where she beat Hareeba and Telesto.

RACE 1
King Of Thunder is a grandson of Sydney Cup winner Honor Babe. This O’Shea/Charlton-trained gelding was good on debut over 1400m then equally good in a mile Super Maiden at Kembla after that. Minnehaha Falls was scratched from Kembla to run here. He’s by the dual Doncaster winner Sacred Falls and is thus, perfectly equipped for this trip. Ditto that last bit for Inevitable Truth, a half-sister to an ATC Derby winner.
Bet: King Of Thunder to win, exacta 8 to beat 6
RACE 2
Slick ‘N’ Quick is a very well-bred daughter of Pride Of Dubai and Quick Feet; the latter was runner-up in a Reisling and third in a Tea Rose. As for this filly, she was $12 into $10 when she beat a small field of rivals in a 1500m Maiden at Hawkesbury. Seems to be on an upward trajectory. Oakfield Blue Bell is a last start track and trip winner but he drew 1 that day whereas he has 10 of 10 this time. Tears For Fears is mostly consistent in handy company.
Bet: Slick ‘N’ Quick to win
RACE 3
Generous Harry is trained by Ron Quinton and is a grandson of his ‘first good horse’ namely Mamzelle Pedrille. This son of Harry Angel’s current C.V is two seconds from three starts. Fair to say, his trials have been out of this world. Drawn to win too. Shezasiren is a million times better than her last at Warwick Farm on debut back on May 8. She trialled super herself and barrier 4 and Jason Collett is a big lure.
Bet: Generous Harry to win, Shezasiren to place, exacta 4 to beat 6
RACE 4
The Act is a very warm favourite here on debut and for good reason. He is a Gerry Harvey-bred and owned son of Zoustar out of that bonny multiple stakes-winner, Belong To Many. To say he is a ‘racy colt’ is pure understatement. Yamato is $101 and on form, that is understandable. But for what it is worth, I think he is better than that and he does have a good draw and Jason Collett on. Koios and Lady Ichikawa are in contention.
Bet: The Act to win, Yamato to place

RACE 5
Deconstruction is an interesting horse. The Maher/Vinery colt is by Snitzel out of a half-sister to Everest winner, Yes Yes Yes. This colt is also a full to Zondee who has talent. Deconstruction has raced twice, either side of a spell, one of them was a Warwick Farm third on debut. Trialling well. That said, he will have to pull out something that we haven’t yet seen from him if he is to beat the red-hot favourite Embassy. Not knocking him but he has been a wee-bit costly.
Bet: Deconstruction each-way, quinella 2, 3
RACE 6
After Match is a Peter Snowden-trained Zoustar colt in the Yulong green and white silks. This one has come back with an easy as you like win at Hawkesbury which was followed by a neck second to Weeping Woman here. No shame in that. Fire Star has ‘only’ one win and four seconds but let’s be fair to him, one of those seconds was to Shezanalister and another to The Black Cloud. No excuses from that draw. Big watch on Jim and Greg Lee’s Amont who is tempting at $21.
Bet: After Match to win, box trifecta 2, 4, 8
RACE 7
Pajanti, a $500,000 Easter Yearling purchase, won the Mona Lisa Prelude pretty impressively. She actually won like a horse that would win again next time. Sure, this is a step up in grade for the Pierro mare but she looks up stakes-class in my opinion and we get $17 to find out. Hellavadancer is another one that seems either generous or overs or both at $11. She was building up to that last start win but who is to say she can’t keep progressing. Clearly, Terra Mater is way too competitive, honest and talented to leave out.
Bet: Pajanti each-way, exacta 11 to beat 4
RACE 8
Drama Dodger is trained here at Wyong by Kristen Buchanan. This daughter of Nicconi has finished second and third respectively in her two home runs, the second was to Cosy Corner, the third was behind Global Empire which reads well. Long and the short of it, she is reliable. Tender Streak got very close indeed to Northern Eyes last start and Northern Eyes has won again since. Irish Kisses, an emergency in the Mona Lisa, is by far the highest rated horse in the race.
Bet: Drama Dodger to win, Irish Kisses to place
