WYONG INSIDE MAIL
RACE 1: MAIDEN HANDICAP (1350m)
West Head turned in a nice effort on debut at Canterbury. Settled back along the rails before making good ground late out wide to finish fifth behind Raikkonen over 1200m. Will be better for the experience and will appreciate the step up to 1350m. Swift Gun was a handy second to Leantothemoon at Hawkesbury then was five weeks between runs when second to First Mission at the same course. Will be better for the run. Delrico may not have handled the heavy track on debut. Nice effort second-up when runner-up to Automated here in July.
Bet: West Head to win
RACE 2: BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1600m)
Happy Saturday has placed just twice in eight starts since coming to Australia and looks well placed to add to that record here. Resumed with a fifth at Hawkesbury over 1300m and returned with a fourth last start. Steps up to 1600m and drawn ideally. Fiorsum Fred ran a handy fourth at Rosehill first-up then didn’t have much go right in the Highway at Kembla on The Gong Day. Was runner-up to Rapt in the Grafton Guineas at his first go over the 1600m. More Mischief led before finishing third behind Tom Cruising at Hawkesbury. Nice effort to win at Nowra two starts earlier.
Bet: Happy Saturday to win
RACE 3: BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (2100m)
Montgomery found the 1300m way to short when resuming at Randwick before working to the line steadily when sixth to Tom Cruising over 1600m at Hawkesbury. Led all the way to win his maiden over this track and distance back in May. Mannerheim comes out of the same two races when he beat just one home first-up before finishing just ahead of Montgomery in fifth place last time out. Won third-up last preparation over 1700m. Tokyo Run is better than bis latest run in the Country Classic. Previous efforts were good including a win at Orange over 2100m.
Bet: Montgomery each-way
RACE 4: MAGIC MILLIONS WYONG 3YO & 4YO STAKES (1200m)
Bauhinia almost pulled off the impossible on debut when second to Red Hot Lizzie at Canterbury after being tailed off at the 800m. She was on her game second-up with a good win at Newcastle. Plenty of speed here and should get an ideal run from gate 3. The Novelist was sent forward from the outside gate to lead before finishing fourth to Tristate when resuming at Rosehill. Dropped back to provincial grade with an all-the-way win from Bunker Hut at Kembla. Zealously resumed with an impressive four-length Maiden win at Kembla and followed it up with a near two-length win in a BM64 here.
Bet: Bauhinia to win
RACE 5: MIDWAY BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1100m)
Incarcerated raced very well in his first campaign starting with a second on debut at Goulburn in June two starts later, broke his maiden with a stylish win from Kervette over 1200m here on July 20. Returned two weeks later withy a five-length win from She’s All It in an 1100m Class 1. Resumes here off a nice trial win at Canterbury. Welcome Gypsy resumed with a second behind Zealously over 1000m here. Will be improved by the run and is a second-up winner.
Bet: Incarcerated to win
RACE 6: MAGIC MILLIONS WYONG 2YO CLASSIC (1100m)
Tempestuous trialled nicely at Kensington in September when a close second and debuted with a terrific head second behind King Kirk in the Group 3 Breeders’ Plate on Oct 5. Led when a commanding winner in his Randwick trial on Nov 26. Blitzenburg worked early to get across and sit outside the leader and showed plenty of fight to hold out Offenbach on debut over 900m at Newcastle. Will be improved by the experience. Offenbach tracked the leader and tried hard but couldn’t quite reel in Blitzenburg. Winkers off and the blinkers go on.
Bet: Tempestuous to win
RACE 7: BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1300m)
Imported gelding Monty Be Quick improved with each run in his first Australian campaign culminating with a five-and-a-half length win over 1500m at Kembla in July. Showed he is ready to kick off his second preparation with a nice win in his Muswellbrook trial before a close second to Vegas Outlaw in a 1200m heat here on Nov 26. Calgary King was just behind the placegetters in his first two runs back from a spell before a half-length third to Hot Bandit at Goulburn just over three weeks ago. The blinkers come off and the visor goes on. Whispering Cate has been good in both runs for her new stable including a Kempsey win last start.
Bet: Monty Be Quick to win
