Prolific Sydney jockey Tyler Schiller plans to send 2024 out on a high after landing a plum ride in next Saturday’s $2 million The Ingham (1600m) at Randwick.

Schiller will be legged aboard recent Group 1 winner Port Lockroy for Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald in the feature handicap which offers the winner a berth in next year’s Doncaster Handicap, the race he won this year aboard Celestial Legend.

Fifteen days ago Port Lockroy claimed a maiden Group 1 success when an impressive winner of the $1.5 million Railway Stakes over 1600m in Perth.

“He’s a nice ride to pick up,” Schiller said.

“He put the writing on the wall before he went to Perth with strong performances in the Golden Eagle and Silver Eagle.

“I know he’s had a trip across the country and back but Saturday will only be his fifth run of the prep so hopefully he’s got another one in him because his form is top notch for this race.”

The young talent is one of the leading members of the new wave of riders in Sydney which also includes the likes of Zac Lloyd and the sidelined with injury, Dylan Gibbons.

This year has been Schiller’s first calendar year as a senior jockey and he’s won a host of feature races including the Doncaster Handicap and Canterbury Stakes at Group 1 level as well as another three million-dollar races – the Q22, The Invitation and The Hunter.

“It’s been a great year but 2025 is just around the corner and I’ve got to keep improving and building momentum,” he said.

“I’m very lucky to have some of Sydney’s biggest stables as well as plenty of others supporting me.

“I’m hoping to end the year with a bang and start the New Year in exactly the same way.”
