VRC Oaks winner Treasurethe Moment will return in the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield next Saturday.

The Yulong-owned filly, trained by Matt Laurie, tuned up on Wednesday with a jumpout at Sandown.

The three-year-old daughter of Alabama Express travelled sweetly off midfield and finished strongly under jockey Luke Currie.

“It was a field full of short course horses really and they travelled pretty good,” Laurie said.

“I thought she responded nicely and she finished off nicely. She sustained a nice gallop.”

Laurie has a traditional three-year-old fillies’ program mapped out with the Kewney Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 8 the second-up run before attention turns to Sydney for the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) and Australian Oaks (2400m).

“It appears she’s kicked off the way she finished the preparation anyway, she did a lot in a short space of time,” Laurie said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how she progresses, obviously there’s going to be new fillies (emerge).

“She was very dominant in those two races (Wakeful Stakes and VRC Oaks) and we can only hope she runs up to those and if we’re lucky she’s improved a bit off it as well.”

Treasurethe Moment went from strength to strength with racing last spring.

She placed second first-up in a benchmark 64 against older mares and then forced Wakeful-Oaks consideration with back-to-back wins at Sandown and Caulfield respectively.

“She kicked into a new gear halfway through the preparation,” Laurie said.

“She’s a star filly and we’re really looking forward to seeing how she goes.

“She’ll be a nice horse to travel, she’s got a good brain and she’s easy to work with, Yulong are very supportive. They’re very excited about the preparation ahead as we are.”

Laurie has two-year-old first-starter Blethyn in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) on Saturday at Flemington.

Blethyn, named after former Essendon goalkicker Geoff, who famously wore glasses on the field, won a recent Cranbourne trial.

“There’s horses in there out and about and won,” Laurie said.

“We’re taking on horses with a bit of experience, we think he goes all right, whether or not we see it this time around, we think the horse has got something there.”

Blethyn has a nomination for the Blue Diamond but Laurie conceded a seven-day back-up would be unlikely.

“He’d need to go enormous (in the Talindert) and come out bouncing,” Laurie said.

“It would be a bit of a tough ask but I’d like to have that problem.”
