Moonee Valley Racing Club stalwart Marty Synan, one of Australia’s longest serving and respected track managers, has resigned to take up a post with Racing Queensland.

Synan, 56, is set to officially ring in 41 years at The Valley on January 2.

As RQ track development manager, Synan will oversee the curation of all thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racecourses in the Sunshine State from February 3.

Synan will sign off at The Valley on January 25 after the Group 2 Australia Stakes meeting.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of it but the time has come for a change of lifestyle, something different,” Synan said.

“I lived here for 20 years, it’s been my whole life … I was sick in the guts (Friday) telling them (colleagues), it wasn’t easy.

“I went and told all the jockeys and that, it’s hard … it puts a tear in your eye.”

A change of workplace after four decades is not the only major life change for Synan, an avid supporter of the Aberfeldie and Essendon football clubs.

“I’ll have to become a Suns supporter now,” Synan laughed.

“I’m a Bombers man but they’ll probably win a premiership before Essendon do.”

Second-in-charge and track foreman Tony Salisbury is a prime candidate to replace Synan at The Valley.
