Exciting colt Field Of Play opened his account in style on Saturday at The Valley with a dominant debut Two-Year-Old Handicap (1200m) victory.
Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Field Of Play zoomed past the leading trio approaching the home bend under jockey Blake Shinn and “treated rivals with contempt”.

“I was pleasantly surprised how well he rounded the leader up (Neverenoughlego) who appeared to be the hardest to beat and he treated his rivals with contempt,” Shinn said.
“That was a dominant display … I had a lot of respect for the leader given his run at Ballarat and Trent indicated to me I have to encourage this horse at his first start.
“I got on our bike a little early and got him into gear in the mind but he knew his job very well and full credit to Trent and Nat … they’ve got a smart horse here.”

Field Of Play, a $500,000 Karaka Yearling purchase, will naturally be aimed at the Blue Diamond Series but the best of the Deep Field colt could be at three.
“I think he’s probably more of a maybe Guineas-style of horse, a mile type, but what he did today over 1200m was very, very impressive,” Shinn said.
Busuttin said the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) could be the next port of call.
“The Blue Diamond is the natural (target) isn’t it,” Busuttin said.
“He’s not a 1000m two-year-old, which we’re mindful of, we’ll probably tick him over and try and get him in the Prelude and go from there.”

Busuttin and Young won the 2020 Blue Diamond with Tagaloa.
“He’s done it every bit as good but you keep on raising the bar and hopefully he continues, but there wasn’t much wrong with that,” Busuttin said.
Tom and Jenni Gone Bonkers rounded out the top three from Neverenoughlego.
