Superstar jockey Jamie Kah has put her hand up to partner talented South Australian staying mare The Map in next month’s Adelaide Cup.
The 28-year-old was the toast of Morphettville in 2022 when she snared her hometown Adelaide Cup for the first time aboard Phillip Stokes’ Daqiansweet Junior, part of a brilliant five-timer on the day, but she was unable to defend her title last year after a nasty fall at Flemington forced her to forgo the ride on early favourite Persan and kept her sidelined for five months.
Kah already has a relationship with The Map, piloting her to a dominant victory over 2800m at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day, and she’s touched base with trainers Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray as she chases a ride for this year’s Group 2.
"This honestly feels like I just won the #MelbourneCup for these people."

The Map was outstanding winning the Listed JRA Plate (2006m) first-up at Morphettville over the weekend and she will now plot a path to the Adelaide Cup via the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes on Saturday week.
But with Kah making herself available for the grand final, Clarken and MacGillivray have a tough decision to make given Lachlan Neindorf is the incumbent and was successful on Saturday.
“Right at the moment Lachy has the sit in the Lord Reims, J Kah has put her hand up (for the Adelaide Cup),” Clarken said.
“We’ll let that unfold, Lachy has done nothing wrong, and he’s doing a lot of work at the farm and a lot of work at Murray Bridge so if we can throw him that way we will, but we’ll see what happens.”

Meanwhile, newly-minted senior jockey Ben Price hopes to be back riding this weekend after slicing his finger open at Oakbank last Friday.
The 21-year-old, who was named Dux of the South Australian Apprentice Academy for the second time last month, needed seven stitches after an incident in the barriers before the first race.
He was a late scratching from the Morphettville card on Saturday, missing the winning ride on promising filly Desert Dancing for Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea.

Price wasn’t the only injured hoop to make an appearance at the track with apprentice Kelsey Hannan in good spirits at Morphettville after a scary fall at Strathalbyn last month.
There were serious fears for the New Zealander when she was flown to hospital but the outcome was as positive as it could’ve been with a fractured C1 vertebrae and concussion.
Hannan wasn’t wearing a neck brace but she is still feeling the effects of the concussion and expects to remain sidelined for three to four months.
