Trainer Clinton McDonald cannot fault exciting colt Angel Capital ahead of the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on Saturday.

Angel Capital stamped spring credentials with a brilliant win first-up in the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m), surging to victory over Bosustow.

“We feel he has improved coming into Saturday again, he’s on an upward spiral the horse, he looks great, blood picture is good, eating well, we can’t fault him,” McDonald said.

“We think he’s as good a colt as there is going around and we think on dry ground he’ll show that, we’re excited to be going to the race on Saturday.”

Wanaruah, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, is a $3.70 favourite with Ladbrokes.

Wanaruah was runner-up in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes in at Rosehill Gardens last start.

Angel Capital ($5.50), Bosustow ($6) and Private Life ($6), also down from Sydney, and Epimeles ($8.50) round out the top five in the market.

Tips from the big bookies for Underwood Stakes Day at Caulfield

“There’s a couple of different opposition and different form lines coming down from Sydney and that, which will give us a good indication of where we are,” McDonald said.

“Each race start is just as important as the first one to the second one to the third one with this horse because we think he can be a valuable colt.

“He’s drawn a good barrier on Saturday, it will be up to Benny (Melham) there on whether he goes forward or goes back, that will be totally up to Ben on how he jumps.”

Angel Capital settled last of eight and looped the field to win at The Valley.

“I’m not saying he’s going forward, I’m not saying he’s going back, Ben will decide that in the first 50 yards, we’ll leave that up to him,” McDonald said.

“There’s still a lot to play out (towards the Caulfield Guineas) but we’re happy with the way our horse is training and wouldn’t change him.

“He looks like a miler, 2000m (horse) and then you see him work and the way he races and he’s got that electric turn of foot, if he’s able to do that over 1600m and 2000m well then we’re really in the picture.”

Angel Capital is $11 with Ladbrokes in the all-in Caulfield Guineas market behind boom Sydney colts Broadsiding ($3.20), Linebacker ($6), Storm Boy ($8) and Traffic Warden ($8).
