TAMWORTH INSIDE MAIL

RACE 1: CLASS 1 PLATE (2100m)
STYLEBENDER (4) has the rather underwhelming strike-rate of 1 from 34 but he has placed 10 times and often in better company than he faces here. In fact. one day, the son of Tavistock was fourth to Wicklow at Rosehill. Long way off being a good thing but the stars align. FRENCH DELIVERY (8) is the danger (if he comes). GANGPLANK (2) is 1 from 25 but he is a very fit racehorse. WITHANIA (10) might be better than her CV suggests – that’s ‘might’.
BET: Stylebender to win.

RACE 2: MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)
SHROPSHIRE LAD (5) has trialled twice and won them both including one on Valentine’s Day by 15-lengths – OMG. He hasn’t won yet of course but he looks to be a bargain par excellence at $15,000 at the HTBA Sale. A PATCH OF HONOUR (1) was 20-lengths last on debut here on April 8. Scrub that and we start again. Scott Singleton-trained stablemate CORPORATE LAD (3) is a very, very well-bred horse who has trialled like he would win most races. This is not ‘most races’, though.
BET: Shropshire Lad to win.

RACE 3: CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1000m)
ZAMPANO (2)’s presence is the highlight of the card and makes this a must-see. The locally-trained son of Tassort won the coveted Romantic Dream here on debut then went to Gunnedah a month later and won there too. Spelled, trialled really well at Muswellbrook 11-days ago. ZAHDI (5) is a better horse than his 1 win from 15 starts would indicate. The son of Zariz has only had three runs for Scott Singleton (in the Winter) and they had merit to varying degrees.
BET: Zampano to win, trifecta 2 (standout ) 1,5,10 (boxed).

RACE 4: MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400m)
TRITI (1) is trained by Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich and will be ridden by Aaron Bullock and we just can’t not mention their strike-rate – 42.3 per cent win, 77.3 per cent when placings are added. Wow. Triti is a first starter by Castelvecchio and a grandson of Newcastle Cup winner, Bianca. Trip suits, trialled well. CASDAEMON (7) has placed at 5 of his 13 starts. This is the right race (again) for the son of Casino Prince. HALLE BEE (4) beat Casdaemon home at Quirindi last start.
BET: Triti to win.

RACE 5: MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200m)
PENSATIVA (9) races in the same colours as her close relative Streama. This Lou Mary-trained daughter of Impending ran two sevenths at her only runs at the first preparation but one was in the Miss Finland, the other in the Woodlands. Trialled twice, both outstanding. Could be in for a very good summer. CHURCH ROCK (5)’s only two runs so far were at Grafton, either side of a spell, and you could argue that he was the eye-catcher in both. PENINSULA (4) has trialled exceedingly well and has a world-class pedigree.
BET: Pensativa to win, First 4 and trifecta 9 (standout), 1,2,4,5 (boxed).

RACE 6: BENCHMARK 82 (1600m)
KING’S DUTY (9) is a 64-rater in a Benchmark 82 but he gets 5kg and 7kg off his two main dangers (and others). In actual fact, the Mark Minervini-trained/Gerry Harvey-bred son of Exosphere is a better horse than his rating. He’s in form and drawn favourably too. JACENZA (4) was nowhere near as bad it reads there at Canterbury last start and don’t forget he was fifth of 14 in the Barn Dance before that. RUSSLEY CROWN (1) won a H&NW Heat at this track.
BET: King’s Duty each-way, Daily Double 1st Leg (9), 2nd Leg (3).

RACE 7: BENCHMARK 58 (1400m)
RURA PENTHE (2) is 1 from 17 but has placed 7 times. He is another of those horses that could, and maybe even should, have two or three or more in the win column but for bad barriers, pattern, tempo, a bit of track bias here and there. This is his pet trip, just hope barrier one doesn’t work against him. MY MATE KATE (3) won a very strong Benchmark 58 at her only visit to Tamworth. Big run in a Highway downtown second-up too. BURRANEER BUOY (1) is a good horse with a bad draw!
BET: Rura Penthe to win, quinella 2,3.

RACE 8: BENCHMARK 74 (1200m)
OUR BOY OLLIE (3) is trained here by Michelle Fleming. The $9,000 Scone Yearling purchase (and winner of $128,325) has won three times at home. On top of that, the fourth generation direct descendant of Summoned has won two from three at this trip. He is so reliable and strikes this ideal contest third-up off two beauties. CODE IN TIME (6) has two wins and four seconds from nine career starts. Beaten a nose first-up. Holly Williams has done a fantastic job with former Sydney-sider GREAT SIEGE (14).
BET: Our Boy Ollie to win, exacta 3 to beat, Great Siege to place.
