WYONG INSIDE MAIL
RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)
EVERYBODY RISE (4), a $1.4 million Easter Yearling graduate and brother to Peter Snowden’s Galaxy winner Russian Revolution, was fancied – for good reason – when he resumed as a gelding in a Canterbury Maiden 11-days ago. Had his chance but he was beaten on the night by an above-average filly. FIREWORK (5) is something of a topical tip given it’s New Year’s Eve. This Sara Ryan-trained local is back in business and ready to perform off a couple of excellent trials. PAPARACHA (7) handed in an encouraging debut.
BET: Everybody Rise to win.
RACE 2: MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)
WRITEGO (12) is a Zoustar daughter of Group 3 winner Written Dash, she’s also the dam of the Skyline Stakes runner-up, Osamu. A $340,000 Inglis Classic Yearling, Writego is trained by Chris Waller – the absolute master of all things Zoustar. Avid trial watchers have their ‘horse for the day’ here in MANAAJEM (9) who has won both her heats, not by far, but looking all class and quality. VANLEE (11) might be the one closing late. Go Zola and Calyx Rose were both $23 in early betting; more likely to place than win but certainly worth including in multiples.
BET: Writego to win, exacta 12 to beat 9, First 4: 12 (standout), 3,4,7,9,11.
RACE 3: CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1600m)
LASPIRIT DEELER (8) is a mare by the Triple Crown winner Dundeel out of the 2016 VRC Oaks winner, Lasqueti Spirit. Same trainer(s), same colours, not quite as much talent but she has the same stamina as her dear old dam. This is 1600m first-up so it gives Laspirit Deeler some chance, bearing in mind that she is one for one at the track and trip. There are a handful of horses in the race that have city form to some degree, namely WILD GYPSY (1) and BALMIERRO (3).
BET: Laspirit Deeler each-way.
RACE 4: 4YO+ CLASS 4 HANDICAP (1200m)
NOT THAT EASY (7) has only managed three wins from 34 starts but she has placed eight times and four of those are seconds. She is one of those horses that probably could have won twice as many as she has but for her pattern. She arrives here off three city placings; she was runner-up to Accredited at the Farm and then missed by an inch when second to her Tuesday rival SLINKY (6). As long as the tight Wyong track doesn’t beat her, she can beat these, Slinky included. UP TO MISCHIEF (5) has won three from six and she is one that will love Wyong!
BET: Not That Easy to win (best bet), exacta 7 to beat 6.
RACE 5: LISTED GOSFORD GUINEAS (1200m)
AMAZING EAGLE (1) has raced five times for a Brian Crowley win in 1:08.66 seconds, a second in the Black Opal Preview and a third in the Black Opal itself. His only unplaced run was last start at Doomben on November 30 when he stepped slow on the Heavy 10 and was back near last until the winning post where he was a nose off the winner – what a run! Going to fly around here! hDANCE TO THE BOOM (3) is a very, very promising filly who was spelled after a comprehensive debut win at Kembla on Aug 17. Resumed on Dec 20 at Canterbury where she ran up to, and past, the handy Apex. Big watch on SHOHISHA (5).
BET: Amazing Eagle to win, Daily Double 1st Leg (1), 2nd Leg (3).
RACE 6: GROUP 3 BELLE OF THE TURF STAKES (1600m)
PIER PRESSURE (6) has a record of 1 win from 16 starts up until November 19. Now the Kris Lees-trained mare is four from 19 and aiming for a picket-fence in today’s Belle Of The Turf Stakes. Granted this is a Group 3 race but keep in mind that she was third to Militarize in the Group 1 Sires’. Drawn 4 – perfect! MISS YOU ELLA (9) came here with a Gulfstream Park (Florida) Grade 3 placing on her CV. She is at her best at the mile and on fast/firm tracks.
BET: Pier Pressure to win, Miss You Ella each-way.
RACE 7: BENCHMARK 64 (1000m)
WELCOME GYPSY (3) has some of the most compelling stats on the whole card today. Her two starts this preparation have both been at Wyong. She ran second at the first one and won the next one. Not only are they her only two runs at this venue, they coincide with Alysha Collett’s only two rides on the mare. Only bad number is the draw. RITZSUN (4) is unbeaten in his two starts last prep and resumes off a good trial. Drawn wide also but remains doable.
BET: Welcome Gypsy to win.
