INSIDE MAIL - TAREE

RACE 1

Bonding looks hard to beat of he runs. The $750,000 yearling could in fact end up in the same race as Open Pearly Gates, who was an early scratching from this race, at Muswellbrook on Monday. If she is out, it opens the way for a local win to start Taree Cup Day via Rebel One who, although a 19 start-maiden at present, went within inches of winning a 1500m Super Maiden at Port Macquarie on Sept 29.

Bet: Bonding To win or if scratched, Rebel One to win

RACE 2

Brief Song has a ticket to ride at Newcastle on Everest Day in a pretty respectable 2260m Class 1 & Maiden Plate. Point being, this is a lot easier for the Scott Singleton-trained mare who is a genuine stayer with the emphasis on genuine. In Iso has only managed one win in his 23 starts but he has placed five times. His form reads a wee-bit hot and cold but he can stay the trip. Take note that he was once third to Monte Kahuna (runs here too) over 2105m.

Bet: Brief Song to win or of scratched quinella 1, 3

RACE 3

Flame Of Hestia could easily be saved for a race at home at Newcastle on Saturday. Just for the record, she is my top pick off her trials, trainer and breeding which is an Everest pedigree given she shares the same grandam as Yes Yes Yes. Volare hasn’t done a lot on paper in her four runs but she has changed stables and regions too and sometimes it makes a world of difference. Big odds anyhow.

Bet: Flame Of Hestia to win or if scratched, Volare to place here

RACE 4

Buck Pharoah is a racehorse in the sense that he always does his best and that’s something reflected in quite an impressive set of figures. Some of those worth mentioning are that he has raced six times at Taree for a win and four placings. On top of that, he has a win, a second and a third from four track and distance runs. Markwell Dreamer has a benchmark rating of 80 which is built on some mighty fine performances in stronger races and against better horses. Great trial.

Bet: Buck Pharoah to win, quinella 1, 5

RACE 5

Where’stheprofit is at Taree but fast forward 12 months and he could be at Randwick in a Kosciuszko. That’s a big call but he is in the right stable and honestly, he has looked like a Saturday horse in country grade in his two wins. Speaking of city horses, I have no doubt that Beyond My Ken will be a frequent visitor to Sydney as his career unfolds. Smashing type who will be fitter for this. Pony Soprano has a dud draw but loads of pace.

Bet: Where’stheprofit to win

RACE 6

The Young Years is a five-year-old mare with just 14 starts under her belt but like all good Kiwi’s, she is getting better with each run. That much is borne out by her last three runs ‘128’. The win was here at Taree, the eighth was an unlucky one in a TAB Highway. Subuki could end up in this rather than the Taree Cup. Simple fact is, if she races in this, she is the best horse in the race. Trivia time. Bonus Tempus ran last in a Canberra Maiden on Nov 13 in 2022 behind Sunshine In Paris.

Bet: The Young Years and Subuki each-way

RACE 7

Aristonous and I Am The Empire are Neasham/Archibald stablemates who also have exactly the same benchmark rating of 73. Both imports are in fine form leading into the Taree Cup. I guess the main thing to separate the duo are their respective barriers; Aristonous is in 10, I Am The Empire has gate 3 but for me, I am sticking with Aristonous who is costly but getting close. Outside of those two, Prime Impact was rather convincing winning the Port Macquarie Cup Prelude beating Our Bambino and Subuki.

Bet: Aristonous to win, quinella 2, 3

RACE 8

Diamond Model was last seen on Aug 24 at Randwick in the Group 3 Toy Show. She was $201 and finished last of the 10 but she drew 10 and was last all-the-way but only six and a half lengths off the winner, Kimochi. Has trialled well since. October Revolution races very well everywhere to be frank, but he does have some really good figures at Taree. It wouldn’t be a proper Taree meeting unless Tony Ball trained at least one winner. He’s got a grand hope in Time For Victory here but for the draw.

Bet: Diamond Model to win
