Sydney trainer Annabel Neasham can’t wait for her opportunity with gun mare Amelia’s Jewel after being selected by owner Peter Walsh to train the mare following a Group 1 tilt in Adelaide.
Neasham will welcome Amelia’s Jewel into her Warwick Farm stable next month, with the mare expected to run in the $1 million Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) on May 11.

“(I was) very excited to receive the phone call from Walshy,” Neasham said.
“I feel very lucky and privileged, he (Walsh) could have picked anyone so I was really humbled, and I suppose surprised, and happy that he’s decided for her to come our way.”

Neasham has previously purchased yearlings off Walsh, and trains Amelia’s Jewel’s half-brother Bosustow.
“He’s a great man, I’ve gotten to know him a little bit over the last few years,” she said.
“He’s just a lovely guy, so for him to entrust us with her is really exciting.”
The Sydney handler is hoping to build on the success that current trainer Simon Miller has had with the mare.
“Hopefully we can do her justice, obviously Simon Miller is a fantastic trainer and he’s handled her so well over her career,“ she said.
“I’ll certainly be turning to him as a bit of a sounding board but (I’m) just excited and hopefully she can go out on a high in Adelaide for Simon.”
